I've been working for hours trying to get that "Coke bottle green" tint in the Humm-Vee windows. I've tried gloss clear Createx top coat with a drop or two of Createx transparent green or acrylic green ink, but I can't get it too look like slick glass. I've also tried Spaz Stix hard anno teal.
I'm getting the color I want, but I can't get it clean and clear enough. Any suggestions?
It's a very subtle touch since both the side windows are partially open, but it's just one more detail I'm trying to get. The windshields will also get the treatment since it's the bullet proof glass that's tinted.
 
could you possibly get a real piece of window tint from a local tint shop by any chance? that would be the real thing and would probably look right. I don't know though, your the master detailer. hahah lol
 
I've tinted windows on other 1:1 cars, and it's all shades of gray or blue. The military HVs are almost exactly a coke bottle green. I've got the color right, just can't keep it looking like glass. It gets slightly frosted, no matter what I do.
 
I wonder why it gets frosted though is the thing? You mean it like doesn't stay clear it gets this little like foggy smoked look to it? But are you maybe spraying it too thick? Thats a real tuffy!! haha
 
try green celophane or clear green sign writers vinyl rolex..............works a charm for me,

either that or clear green acrylic paint from tamiya or airfix............

Another option, is the clear green available for making your own stained glass windows.

as an aside, if it was me, i would grab a sheet of model makers clear plasticard, paint that and fix behind the windows. It is a dodge i have seen many times over to good effect.

I got it worked out last night. I have .030 acrylic sheet that I cut to the window size, spray the Spaz Stix prep, then a light thinned coating of the anodized teal green. Behind that, since it looks like a frosted bulb, I spray several coats of high gloss crystal clear enamel. That takes out the frosted look, and all that's left is wet sanding with 600 and 1500 paper and then buffing with 3000 machine polish to give it the look of clear tinted glass.
I only have a partially open passenger window done, but the end result was well worth the effort.
