has ne one try using the real stuff ? i wanna try it since i can get scrap tint from my work.it should stick and all ill need is a heat gun,which i have at work. BUT , will the heat gun melt the lexan at all ? is there ne idea's to stop the lexan from melting or changing shape if it will disfrom at about 140 deg setting ? i think it would look cool with 5 % tint all around or 30 % on windshield and rest 5 % thanks :beer:
 
nitroz, standard window tint, and even the new mylar version are extremely suceptable to methanol and ethynol. Those are the chemicals they use to remove window tint at car dealerships, and they are also the chemicals in nitro fuel. the tint would work great on an electric car though. as for the heat gun, go right ahead. I use a blow dryer to speed paint drying, and it is far hotter than 140degrees, with out any problems at all.
 
cool ur right i seen that tint removerl stuff before i dont tint the window i just put the sounds in them . well ill have to try the window tint effect look 30 % paint thinner and 70% paint is there ne other way to tint ur windows iam sure ull need a airbrush from the mixed paint and thinner . thanks
 
nitroz , they make window tint paint in a spray can, and in the bottle for airbrushes. it works, but only if u are very very careful, and very very good. you have to lay the paint down with EXTREMELY light coats. should be on the 2nd or 3rd coat before u can even see it, that thin! also, it will bleed through every color but black, so make sure u have some dark paint on the car.
 
does only a lhs carrey that tint spray in rattle can. or can i get it at home depot. also heres a :n00bie: question do i paint my body from the inside or paint on outside. the tint spray would be inside but i painted green outside would it still bleed trough ?? Thanks
 
lol - u always paint rc bodies on the inside. And u can only get paint for lexan bodies at hobby shops. None of the hardware stores carry the proper kind of paint.

U live in Lauderdale? There are several really good hobby shops near you. I'm down there alot, i live in orlando.
 
OK, first, usually RC bodies are painted from the inside. That way the paint doesn't scratch or chip as easily. And there's always a nice shiny finish.

You can also tint the windows by using Pactra Racing Finish Transparent Smoke. A few coats should do the trick and it's not as apt to ruin your paint as the tint in a can.

Sounds like you're kinda new to the painting thing. Go here to get the total lowdown on car painting....

Please forgive my 2 cents.

You are right. Hardware places don't have it. If you like to use Parma FasKolors though, there are lots of places to buy it besides hobby shops. These paints are all exactly the same and probably come out of the same factory...

Parma FasKolor ($4.99 in hobby shops. A rip off. Okay selection of colors).

Createx AutoAir ($2.49 in art stores. Excellent deal. Extreme selection of colors. Many colors that match actual 1:1 car manufacturer colors.).

Createx AirBrush ($2.99 in craft stores. Limited selection of colors).

... heck buy 6 colors of paint and you can save some real money. Whats costs 30 bucks in the LHS is only 15 bucks in an art store. I don't use any hobby shop paints at all. Also, nail polish is laquer paint and sprays like a dream.

el burro, first - the createx paints are made by the same company that parma uses, however they lack the bonding agents that allow the parma faskolor paint to stick to lexan so well. They will work, but chip much easier than the parma version. but, u are right, they will work if u dont use the body too hard.

as for fingernail polish, it is a laquer paint, which u cannot use on lexan as it drys hard and will crack and peel off as soon as u bend the lexan. fingernail polish is the same type of paint that u would use on static display models, such as testors model master paint series.
 
nitroaddict , yes i found a good LHS called southeast RC hobbies . i went there i liked this place alot . mail order prices at a lhs.this place blows the other large rc shop out west out of the water.this will be the place i go to . so if i use the art store paint ill be good on say a tournig saden where it dosent go offroad where like a MT i would go with the parma faskolor paint since offroading is more brutal ? thanks for all the info peace:clap:

Sorry I wasn't more clear Nitro. I was in a rush trying to finish up at work. What you say is true if you use AutoAir right out of the bottle. The bonding agent is the ONLY difference here IMO. I add the bonding agent and after everything is done I back with 4 coats of laquer. I do buy the laquer paint from a hobby shop but I get a case at a time so I didn't think of it when I was in a rush before.

Between the bonding agent and the 4 coats of laquer, the paint stands up just as well as FasKolor with even nicer colors and still costs like half of what it would if I used FasKolors. Createx AirBrush is FasKolor with a different label on it IMO. I do agree that AutoAir has less bonding agent in it otherwise these are three identical paints. Of course anyone can have an opinion. If you check out the web on the subject, there are different schools of thought.
