today i was breakin in my new o.s. .18 cv-rx and the wierdest thing keeps happening. when it is just sitting there ideling all of the sudden itll suck some of the pull start cord in and stall. i have no idea y its doin this. mayeb you do. and another thing is wen i rev it there is liek a high pitched whiny noise comin from the engine. another mystery.

I think most engines suck the cord in when they die becuase they jump backwards and pull the cord... It is not unusual. As for the whiny noise, it could be the spur gear and clutch bell running together... I doubt it is anything broken...

Unless you have a forward only conversion, the clutch bell and spur gear will be spinning when the engine is running, hence the whiny noise.

Unless it's operating abnormal, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're really concerned, take it to the LHS and see what they have to say about it.

the whining noise sounds like your mesh is too tight, just reset it so there is a very small amount of play between the gears and it should be gone ,
if not let us know and hoepfully we can try to figure it out for you

.21 is correct that when the engine stalls, it kicks backward for a moment which sucks the cord back into the pullstart. The real issue is the engine stalling. If you've just started the engine, it's probably not warm enough to keep idling yet. You may have to increase your idle trim for a minute until the engine temp comes up.
If the engine is warm, your low-speed mix may be a bit too rich. Even on well-tuned engines, you may only get 30 seconds of idle before the crankcase loads up and the engine stalls. You have to periodically blip the throttle to clear a little extra fuel out to keep the idle smooth.
If it's warm and it's stalling quickly at idle, you may need to increase your idle stop screw just a hair. go 1/8 turn at a time until you get a smooth but not screaming idle.

It could also be the 1 way bearing going bad. When the 1way starts to drag, it will spit out the cord and stall the engine .
