how come when someone is redoing their rc they sometimes buy new remote systems even though their old one is perfectly fine.

Feature upgrades, overall feel, balance... It really varies... Or, just because it's a certain day of the week... That was my excuse for my ex when she asked why I bought an M8...

"why'd you buy that thing for $300!?!??!!?"

"because it's a tuesday"

"what is that supposed to mean!?"

"it's as good a reason as any, isn't it?"

Because there are MANY differences between lower end AM stock radios and High performance FM radios like the Nomado, 3PK, M11, etc. There are too many advantages of getting a higher end radio to list.

I wish I had one excuse for why I have upgraded radios. Most of my reasons is for one main reason ... RACING!

When you race, there are certain things that become necessary for tuning your car's reaction to your inputs. Those things can only be tuned on your radio. Other things are mainly "bells and whistles." The reason for my last upgrade? It was because I went with a 2.4Gha dsm system. That in itself is a good reason.

I need to up grade my stock radio, I am still using the Ofna radio that my 9.5 came with

Well, if you dont tune your car with your radio in the first place, maybe you dont need one just yet. With racing there are MANY MANY more things that you need to adjust. My favorite option on my radio is the EPA. I can get my servos to go EXACTLY where I want them at all times! I love it lol. There are a ton of other things, but thats just awesome. the regular D/R on stock (usually) are just the knobs and are just to give you full-no steering. You can't adjust the right side, or the left side. If I were you, I'd look into getting a better radio. dannyd, i dont have a job yet and I have one (MX-3), so I'm sure you can manage lol.

I'm gonna have to keep that excuse in mind, cause i know it will be handy

And i don't know why people buy radio's if there old one work's anyways.

Well, the reason everyone wanted the synthesized models was to get away from using crystals and the ease of just switching frequencies. Others chose the PCM route for less glitching and removable modules as well as having the needs that most racers who went this troute need. Then there was the combination of synthesized modules for these high end radios. Now with the advent of DSM and no frequency checking, less glitching, etc ... the ease of just switching on the radio is an added plus.

Yes, they make the lower end dsm radios which is great for the everyday joe but the upgraded modules/receivers makes it more cost efficient for the highend users to just switch.

The old radios work but the higher end models work better ... according to your needs.

I like the low-mid grade radio's. $100 for my MX-3 FM radio. Along with the digital readout of battery life, trim settings and whatnot, it has a 5 model (or 3, can't remember which) memory for multiple vehicles and I hate not having a radio with EPA's. End point adjustments are what allows you to make the servo's stop where you want them too, instead of going to far and burning up a servo or breaking linkage.

I upgraded to my CRX w/Spectra for a few simple reasons, a few have already been stated;

1 - NO crystals to deal with
2 - EPA is a must have for correct servo travel and to assure no damage to the servo
3 - 20 model memory
4 - ABS braking system
5 - FM band...less interference
6 - digital trims

Well, I could go on about my radio.....yes I love it...LOL......but that's a few reasons....OK..6!

from what you all said i might get me a new radio for my nmt since i am going to update it with new engine and some aluminium and carbonfiber parts. it only takes me 3 weeks to make 120 bucks.

Adjustable response curves can be useful, especially for on-road.

You can reduce the sensitivity of the steering around the centre point, useful if your car is a bit "twitchy".

Also, reducing the sensitivity around the neutral point on the throttle/brake can make it easier to feather the throttle and brake, making for a smoother driving style. Very useful for nitro-engined cars, a programmable speed controller often provides this feature for electric cars.

To be honest, the lack of response curves is the only thing stopping me from buying the Spektrum DS-3 at the moment.

buggyracer28 mentioned the Nomadio Sensor 4-Channel DSS Radio System. i looked it up and jesus christ thats alot of money. i know you can adjust everything you willl ever need. it has a clock and it even records lap times. i must admit i like it. how of you have this, is it worth every penny?

I switched to a Futabe 3PM. My 2pl was fine, but with the Savage weighing what it does, and going as fast as it does, I figured FM would be a better choice.

May want to look into the JR XR3i. They're about $150.00 or so can can be programmed to run four different rigs. I've got the two stock RX's and added two Novak RX's that I can change the frequency on without having to flip crystals. Love it!

I also just got a MX-3 from Zandor when I bought his Savage, but I've yet to even put batteries in it. I might give it a whirl, just to see what it's like.
