Been using my new Savage x properly fir the first time today and noticed that the brakes are really poor - I have udjusted the linkage as far as I can without getting drag, but when I brake the car just slowly comes to a leisurely halt! - Yes when I apply the brake whe the car is stationary I can beary push it. Whats the problem here??

I had the same problem on my Savage X. The soft spring on the break linkage was part of the problem. I removed it and stuck a piece of fuel tubing in its place. That helped a lot. It will now lock up the breaks on dirt. But on any surface that the tires can really get a good bite it still has a lot of role out before it stops. I've dun a lot of reading on this and lots of people are dealing with the same problem. Most people are doing a OFNA linkage mod and replacing the stock FS-1 servo (that is really not strong enough for the throttle, break application) with the FS-2 that controls the steering. Then upgrade the steering servo with a Hitec HS-645MG. I've got the new Hitec servo but I'm waiting for the OFNA parts to be delivered. So I can't really tell you how much of an improvement it is yet. But this seams to be the most common fix for the week brake problem that I have found.

Are you using the stock radio , brake rotors and 4 AA cell battery holder?

If so, change out the AA's to a RX Rechargeable 5 cell pack. You get the full 6volts to utilize the most out of your servos.

Now I am not sure what type Savage X model you got but the older ones did not come with the Dual disc brakes. I uprgaded to those and I was able to go full throttle and hit the brakes FULL and flip the rig over....many times at ones. LOL

I found it very useful when attempting back flips.

All suggestions made are great. I also did the throttle /brake mod . SOOOOO much better.

Please let us know what you do or how it turns out.

I also run the dual disk break and are now on my second set of pads, there cheap though.
I agree when I first put them on the rig would do a front flip just from hitting the breaks at high speed ( although not good for the front diffs) its awesome!!
I am interested to find out the fiberglass breaks are working just as well?? thats surprising.

oh whats the best 5 sell pack to buy for these savage X's?? I think that would be a great upgrade.

thanks all

Best RX packs... PM FastEddy. He will hook you up with a deal.

As far as ruining your front diffs. I have not had that problem. If it is something you are concerned about, then upgrade to the aluminum diff housings but shimm them properly when assembling and instaling. No Play = you to play more.

Ya i upgraded to the alum. diffs a while back , they are rock solid. I just put that info up for people who are running the plastic housings

Jon, I have the latest Savage with dual fibre disks (stock servos, standard batteries etc) - did notice that I have a bit of oil depost on them, which I guess could be part of my problem - what mods. did you make to your brake setup.

Many of us have used a variation or two of it and have incorporated the same into other shoddy RTR linkage setups.

This was my savage:

I found a different pivot that allowed me to use 4x6mm bearings as well. Coupled with captured ball ends, the movement was very smooth and slop free.
