Hey I was just looking at a thread and they said that battery pack are good. Wall what is the big deal with them? Why buy a 19 doller battery pack when you can just go to the story and by some batteres for 5 bucks. So what is so good about them

Jonathan

5 bucks may get you some alkaline batteries that will last for 4-5 tanks of gas. But, if you buy a rechargable pack, it has more capacity and is rechargable, so saves a ton of money if you run a lot. And, you can get some that last up to 10-12 tanks or even more, depending on the servos you run.

Like GT said, it's just more economical. For the $20 that you spend on a rechargeable pack, you'd get 4 sets of alkalines. They average about 5 tanks per set. So you're looking at 20 tanks for $20. Now, spend that $20 on a rechargeable pack, and you get over 100 recharges at about 10 tanks per charge (if you're using one of the newer 1200+ mAh packs). So for that same $20 you're getting 1000 tanks roughly. Which translates to 200 sets of alkalines which cost you close to $1000. OK, well, the savings may not be that huge, but you get the point. The only other expense with rechargeables is having a charger to charge them. But that's only $60 for one that will do a nice job on those....

19$ X 1 = $19 (100+ charges)

$5 X 100 = $500

It's pretty easy math really ;)

The other benifit of using NiMH packs is they allow more current flow than alkilines which translates to more powerfull servo's and better range out of the radio.

i jsut bought rechargable AA's from walmart and they last longer than 5 tanks of fuel, works for me and all i say get a battery pack for the reciever and use the rechargable AA's for the transmitter.

Another great advantage is that your servos are rated higher outputs when you use 5 cells rather then just 4. Brings your total voltage to 6v not 4.8.

4 cells does not give you the same power as that of a 5 cell one.

5 cells = 6V

4 cells - 4.8V

Servoes work better at 6 V

You must be that kid in school who finished the test 30 minutes before everyone else because you didn't read the question right... As I recall he was saying that the battery packs last twice as long as a set of alkalines. It's easy math but it's also problem solving too. I give you a C-

I did it... ordered the 5-cell HPI 1200 Mah rx pack. Must be 6-Volt!!! its the only way to get the 133 oz of torque out of your HS 645 MG steering servo... otherwise you only get about 103 oz. at 4.8 Volts with 4 AA's. Get Your Volts and drive it like you stole it!!!

sorry, 4-cell rx pack = 4.8, but the alkaline AA's are a waste... they don't last as long.

Ok, if I get a receiver pack, I need one for my tmaxx and one for my xxxnt.
Do the receiver packs fit in the battery boxes or do I throw aside the battery box and strap it to the chassis??
How do hook it up properly??
Do I add a plug between the switch and batt. pack to connect it??
I just want to know everything i need to get.
Also, I have a miniT, and I am planning on getting another batt. for that.
What is the best charger for someone who is into nitro?
I have an old school hobbico for nicads, but I need a nmh charger.
I have read a little about the prophet, but that is all I know.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For the T-maxx, onlybatterypacks.com has you covered. They have a pack that bolts in place of you stock battery box. It includes the on/off switch and has an adaptor for you reciever.. so its a total bolt on. No mods neccesary.

Just wondering, but are you sure about that web address??

I couldn't get it to work, and I know about cheapbatterypacks.com

thanks
