Hey boys,

I have read and heard a lot of talk on here about people changing up their radios/servos and hating the stock ones.
I have only been in the R/C field for 4 yrs so maybe I am pretty new but I have never had an issue with my electronics AT ALL.
I run my truck effin hard and quite a bit but never even thought of the electonics upgrade.
What exact difference does newer/better servos or radios make to the savage X?? Are we talking strictly for on-track racing or are you all ungrading just for bashing?

for starters most R/C systems from 4 years ago come with AM radios, FM radios at best. AM radios are extremely glitchy (if that is a word), and drop signals alot. So you up grade to a FM or a 2.4 radio to prevent radio drop and such. Plus you gain a lot of distance by going to a FM or 2.4.

As far as the servos go stronger servos on the throttle/brake allow for strong breaks to bring your truck to a stop in a hurry. Of course that will not do much for the throttle end since the carb can only turn so far.

When i comes to steering servo, it'll help keep those big tires turned in the right direction regardless of the terrain you are driving on. Loose sand/dirt has a totally different affect on tires than grass.

Back to the radio deal a little bit. IF you should go and get a top end radio they add features like, ABS brakes, Throttle limiting is separate from braking limiting, you can adjust how far your servo throws in ratio to how you move the trigger/wheel. Meaning i can pull my throttle trigger 1/2 way and limit it to it's only a 1/3 open to help prevent wheelies. blah blah blah.....

If the AM radio you are dealing with works for you...awesome.... just alot of people don't trust em. And with the pricing of FM or Spread Spectrum (2.4) there is no reason for you not to update your radio for added security of the car running amuck.

Awesome. Great reply. I bought a Savage X I think 2 or 3 years ago and it came with a HPI TF-3 with the steering limiter on it only. I see your point about newer radios. I just haven't had an issue with mine yet. I find the batteries are the limiting factor on my servo/radio performance. If I had the best radio with weak batteries I don't think I would be much ahead.
I run Energizer Rechargeable (2500mAh) batteries in my gun.
What is a better choice? Non rechargeable I would assume so you get the full 1.5V. But what are the money-makers for 'AA' gun batteries.

Personally i use a Futaba 3PK, FM, and i love it. The radio has never failed me. As far as the radio for the transmitter. I'd say those 2500MaH are good enough. and 1.2v is typically what the out put is even in ALK batteries. they show 1.5v when new but they shortly/quickly drop.

and if you are having a problem with the batteries on the RX side make sure to update to a 5cell hump pack for the truck and it'll go from 4.8v to 6v which will make a huge difference in the performance of the servos on your rig.
