I know that several of our members are in the military, and I thought they deserve some appreciation for what they do. It would be great if those of you who are either in the military or in civil service jobs (yes, even you, Super Trooper) could post up and let us know who you are. I know I talk to some of the guys about everyday and I don't even know if they're serving our country or not.

I would to personally thank each and every one of you, including those veterans who have served at one time or another in the past. It takes a lot of courage to stand up and do the things that you guys do everyday, and so many people take our freedom for granted. It's unfortunate that a lot of people don't give the people in the armed services enough credit just because of political issues. To me, it doesn't matter if I agree or disagree with the president, or what political views I may hold, the fact is that you guys step up to the line every single day and serve your country, no matter who is in charge, or what the situation may be. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you to those that have fought for our freedom, those that are fighting now, and those that will fight and servve our country in the future.

I did my time during the height of the Viet Nam war, and I'm proud to say that during my time at Fort Hood, not ONE....that's right....not ONE Viet cong insurgent EVER got into the town of Killeen, in central Texas.

USAF....7 years left until I retire from it and get to find a new job......that is scary

I was in the army during the first Gulf War. I Still pour sand out of my ears from time to time.

Marine Corps - Forward Observer

Officially enlisted in a place similar to hell, Paris Island, SC on Feb 25th. Graduate Friday from MASOC in Fort Sill, OK and then go to Coronado Bay, CA for Naval Gun Fire training. I'll most likely be deployed within the first year of making it to the fleet. II MEF is deploying Jan, so maybe even sooner.

Just hoping I can go to Afghanistan and not Iraq when I deploy.

Got some cool artillery spotting pics on my myspace if anyone is interested

Dads Army Reserve, best friend is Gaurd. I tried for the Gaurd, but somthing about having to sign a medical waiver for my knees and jump school didnt quite mix too well

Enlisted into the Navy during my senior year, went to basic after graduation. I got out after 4yrs and managed to stay out for a little over 1 year before joining the Army Guard. All said, I have close to 17 yrs in with no plans to leave soon.

Retired Air Force...they retired me early for being a bad boy!lol
I was a F-16 crew chief/mechanic.

We spend most of our time in Bagram now..and forward deploy from there....we were in Kandahar for the longest time. Trade one crap hole for another.....Iraq, Afgan.....ya can keep 'em both.

Understand, but to be in Iraq seems like it's just Americans being hunted by these people who want stand and fight. You know how they operate...shoot, drop...run into civis where you can engage even if you can clearly make out who it was. While all my instructors and friends who went to Afgahn said the rules of engagement are MUCH better in our favor.

Oh...got my PDS today 2nd ANGLICO,

I never even know about general talk forum thing... Just found it. But Yea I am a SGT in the Army active 19K armor crewman (tanker) its a fun job lots og big booms involved. I'll be getting deployed within the next two weeks, again, to Iraq, AGAIN, hope its better than last time some of my buds that just got back say it's calmed down alot.. Time will tell. I'll know soon. I'll post a thead or two while I'm over there, but I'm pretty sure the internet will be somewhat lacking. Where I'm going they still have tents. ****ing bast***s oh well.

I'm a 17yr army vet and a Warrant Officer Aviator for the last 6 years flying OH-58D's currently on my second tour in Iraq. If all goes well, this will be my last tour here before signing retirement paperwork. To the original poster of this thread, my hats off to you sir! We all talk about about how we serve this country, I don't, I serve for my family, loved ones, friends, and those who truly appreciate it. Everyone else just gets the bennies.

Not to derail this fine thread (much) recognizing those who have served but... has the stop-loss situation affected you personally? I caught the movie Stop Loss recently on a whim and afterwards did some research.. it's pretty bad from what I've read. It just seems to me that, while stop loss is necessary in times of conflict, the way the current administration has been using it is irresponsible and wrong. I wondered if you (or other military members here) would care to share on your thoughts or experiences with it.

Thank you, all of you, who have served or are serving our country. I came within inches of joining the Air Force coming out of high school, had my MOS and everything all selected, but decided not to take the oath for a stupid reason (didn't want to cut my very long hair). Looking back now, I realize I didn't have the stones. Plus, I went mostly bald by 24. Karma's a bitch :)

You all have my utmost respect and admiration.

I'll leave that one for our current servicemen. I was about to comment, but it would have turned this into a political thread, and then one of those 'mod squad blue boys' would have moved it to FFA.
