I went for a ride in the pouring rain to look at Christmas lights with my lady friend, and for the first time in 9 years, my car stalled at a light. It restarted, but stalled again at another light. That was about 12 miles from home.
We decided to hit I-40 and shoot straight back, but when I got into the driveway it stalled again, and wouldn't re-start.
I smelled gas, so I know the injectors were firing, but not even a spit or a sputter from it.
I managed to roll it where it's not blocking the in or out driveways or the lot, but I can't leave it there for long. I'm about to go put a note on it.

Anyone have any idea at all? Apparently I've lost spark.
It's a '93 Thunderbird LX, 5.0 HO engine.

I'm not positive on that engine, does it have a MAF or AFM between the air box and the intake? (mass air flow or air flow meter)

Could be the batteries. Or the ECM. Check the battery with a volt meter. 11.7 to 12.4 volts is good. Anything less is bad. If you can jump it you will have 14 volts if the alternator is working properly. Less than 13 is bad. If it's the ECM only a shop can determine that.

You mean MAP sensor. Mass Airflow Parameter. That wouldn't keep it from starting at all...

Does it crank at all?

I don't know. This is the only car out of almost 40 that I've never worked on. Nothing ever went wrong other than replacing tires and battery.

I'm leaning towards an ignition module, but I don't know how that's set up either.

Right now I'm letting it sit till it's stone cold. All I know about those modules is that they might work cold, after they've failed. I only want to get it into my parking space for now, then worry about it later.

EDIT: Yes, it cranks freely but will not even sputter. I smell raw gas.

No Rc Addict, i meant a MAF, different than a MAP sensor....the MAF or AFM would keep the car from starting and it would allow it to die without spuddering....do the older 302's have MAP sensors?

MAP--It is a wire across the throttle body. It heats up and determines the amount of airflow and sets the injection rate accordingly. I don't know if that year has a throttle body or individual injectors but I am pretty sure it has a MAP.

You know what, destromaxx is a 1:1 mechanic. I have been out of the game too long...

It's not throttle body, it's fuel injected.

I just came back in. I turned the key and felt a sputter, but then it just spun. Since I felt a sputter, I thought I'd try again, and gave it about half pedal while it cranked. It FIRED UP, and while turning 3 grand, I dropped it in gear and spun tires up the hill till I got into my lot and back in my space. I was able to stop and back in without it stalling. It idled normally.

Now, ignition module gone bad? Water in the gas? Any other suggestions?

maybe the antenna is bent???

How dumb do you think I am? That was the first thing I checked! I'm NOT stupid.

The irony here is that my lady had me turn off the CD and go to the tuner for a station playing just Christmas music. That was the first time the antenna had been raised in several months. :hehe:

:whhooo:Coincidence? I think not.

its the operator.

And the chief derailer gets his own tread derailed...

Woops! Amperage overload killed the ECM!!!
