hey guys

i got an epic 18 in my maxx. its eating the stock gears day and night. I'm looking for a good set of steel gears to solve the problem. i already have RRP primary forward and reverse gears, so i would like to go ahead and finish out the tranny with RRP. the problem is i have no idea what they call all the gears so i dont know what gears i need.

id also like you opinion on going with a FOC. i guess i like reverse but i guess i could deal without it too.

Id say my other option is a FOC from UE, but they seem pricey and their website really makes me think they are trying to sell me poop the way they describe their stuff, yet everyone says they are a rocksoild company...

so basicly I'm asking 1) should i go forward only and 2) whats cheaper to fix my problem RRP or UE?

thanx in advance

I've always thought the RRP would do the trick, get a FOC conversion, they run about 11 bucks at the LHS....Now you want the cheapest upgrades? well UE wouldnt be good for that, RRP would. so check RRP out. later

I have all of what RRP offers in my trans.

I run the steel gears. The top 2 speed shaft. The forward primary and the FOC. I've been running a 2.5hp 21 on my maxx and they still look like new. The only gears you can't replace with RRP are the bigger two speed gears. But considering their size, the hold up well. I haven't replaced either of them in the 2 gallons I've run through with all the RRP stuff running with them.

I got the following for inside the trans. The RRP FOC uses the stock primary shaft that the trans outdrives connect to.

Make sure if you get the 2 speed top shaft that you get a few extra of the 6x11 bearings. They are hard to come by at a LHS and they wear out kind of fast due to the speed of what is spinning them and their size for what they do.

Here's a link for the bearing:

You can find all of these gears at tower as well. I ordered all of the gears from lightening though, so those are the links I have. I ordered the bearings from tower at a later date.

dude olds, u must have been sent from the heavens... i thank you deeply.

i think I'm still sort of confused though, i have the older t-maxx tranny. so i dont think i need the topshaft. i already have the forward and reverse primary, but want to go FOC. so i think i just need this http://www.lightninghobby.com/store/viewitem.asp?idproduct=3945 . and if i get that and i already have the primary gear, does that leave

Well, no, not really. It was just an order sheet that my wife had made for me for christmas. This was a good christmas. She also got me an aluminum trans case.

You might want to do the same with teh trans case. I figure if I'm going to put $150 worth of gears in or on my trans, I might as well spend another $100 to make them last as long as possible without trans case flex.

Lightening has a trans case for around $100. The pic is blue, but it really is a silver case: http://www.lightninghobby.com/store/viewitem.asp?idproduct=5661

hey i changed the link up there.

my plan is to drop the reverse. so ill have a steel forward only hear, steel primary gear and thats it. that leaves the 2 big gears for 1st and 2nd gear plastic, i think that that is all the gears. am i correct?
