Hi, i would like to ask the forum some advice on which steering servo to buy on a budget, all the gears in my stock hpi servo stripped so thought it was a perfect time to up grade. It will be fitted onto a savage x. What is the differance with a digital servo aswell? many thanks for any advice given, jim.

A good budget metal gear servo is the Hitec 645, you can get them for around $30 I have been using the digital version of that servo in my Savage for years with no problems at all, it's a 5645, those aren't much more anymore, but you will need a radio with ajustable end points to use a digital servo.

645 is probably the best budget servo around but i have seen several strip when used for steering. Be generous with your servo saver and you should be fine

Sorry for being a noob but as i can gather a servo saver is the plastic piece which attaches to the servo right? so when you say be generous with the servo saver what do you mean, many thanks, jim. p.s i only need to be told once so i understand LOL.

the savage has its own servo saver. Its the purple nut that tightens down on the spring. Just make sure its not too tight.

I wasn't sure if the savage X came factory with that or if that was an upgrade? Anyone know for certain?

The JR 650M is a bit stronger/faster than the hitec 645MG. Costs a bit more though. The JR Sport 126M has the same specs as the 650M, but is a bit cheaper. Not sure why... "sport" vs "not sport".

Or, spend even more and get a hitec 985MG. Great servo and you won't have to worry or think about it for a long time.
