Alright lads!

Was doing a bit of bashing with my truck the other day and the rear centre shaft came apart. It looks banjaxed to me:

I don't think it can be fixed so I want to replace it. Question is, I'm not sure which part to get. The parts booklet has a 5151 part number.

Is it this?:

Or do I get the Traxxas upgrade?

Or is there something else out there? I've done a little research and found info on 3rd party metal shafts and cups but if I go down that route I may need crystal clear direction on what to get!!!

Any help much apreciated lads! Oh, And i've a picco .26 max red dot in it so maybe thats why the shaft has broke!

Adam

Ooh boy that sucks. With the picco you'll be snapping lots of rear shafts
The first pic is a drive shaft for the old style 4910 tmaxx. If you want to upgrade and have either the 4908 or 4907 tmaxx, a 77mm HPI dogbone and the Traxxas extended drive cups part number 5151r will work its a great upgrade and it will put an end to snapping shafts. If you have the 4910 or 4909 model you will need a 70mm dogbone instead of the 77mm

Hi kyleb. Thanks for the concise advice!

Are these the Traxxas Extended cups you're on about?

And I'm not sure but these are all I can find for the dog bones but I'm not sure they're what you mean?

Adam

The upgrade kit is going to come with the cups, just like how the axles come with the cups. Usually I order the extended cups for my axles due to heavy bashing. The drive shafts you have pictured are good, but stick with Traxxas not the aftermarket junk out there.

The parts in your first link won't work because there for a different rc.
Yes the drive cups that you linked are the right ones. Here's the dogbone you will need. http://www.amainhobbies.com/product...y-Duty-Dog-Bone-8x77mm-Silver-Savage-Savage-X

The part number is there an you should be able to find it on any online hobby shop. It's only a $15 dollar setup and it works real well

Looks like your truck is the 4909 maxx, if that is the case then the Traxxas 4949R CVDs in your second pic are drop in for your truck.

Yup 70mm if you can find one.
TRX #4949R are drop in.

Thanks Nitro4910. I took that pic of the Traxxas drop in upgrade shafts from this page. I think I may go for them but just one query; it says 4907 in brackets at the top. That doesn't matter does it? They'll still fit my 4909 Truck?

Adam

4949r are the ones I've got for my 4909 they wont fit the 4907 coz its longer

anyone got a part number for that 70mm shaft, need one for another project

That site is wrong nimmax, the 4949R only fit the model 4909 3.3 maxx, like CM242 said the 4908/07 is longer then the 4909 they will not fit it.

Well that is interesting! I decided to take your advice and searched for 4949r part number on eBay and ordered a set. With postage, it turned out to be a LOT cheaper to get them from the US than wheelspin models in the UK.

As you may have noticed I live in Ireland and there is nowhere here that will supply Traxxas parts (country is just too small and expensive for that kind of business, especially since the birth of the Internet!) so I have to source overseas anyway.

I was happy to find Wheelspin Models in the UK (there is also Modelsport UK) as things get here that bit quicker, but they are expensive. Example is this case:

4949r from eBay (nitrorchobbies): $39 inc postage
4949r from Wheelspin : £51 ($80!) inc postage.

So, no brainer!

if your on a budget you can get the 4907 shaft and cut it down, they're bout $8 on ebay
just measure up the orignal shaft and cut to suit, got me through when i was waitin on my cvds'

Always on a budget kiddo! But I try go with the principal, wait till it breaks then replace, rather than just upgrade for the sake of it. I'd normally just replace with standard but with me having the Picco in my truck, I made an executive decision to get the upgrade now with there being a good chance of me going through centre shafts!

Adam

make sure you check those cvds from time to time, little buggers wear the cups and pins out quick if theyre not cleaned and greased regularly but at the price of spare parts for them its all good
i think i got bout 10 litres out of my before there was enough play to warrant new cup and i was running an rb tm523

Minmax get yourself a tube of graphite to lubricate them, it's what I use on my Traxxas CVD wheel shafts.

Its a dry lubricant usually white in color and feels like a very fine slick as heck powder. Finer than baby powder.

Wow! Amazing! I never knew about that stuff. I'm baffle about how a dry powder can be a lubricant. I'm ordering some straight away! I'll let you all know how it goes.

Thanks a million lads!
