A friend of mine purchased the Ofna LX comp rtr for pretty cheap, but I am not that impressed with the durability of it. It breaks a lot.. and I don't mean simple parts either. He has snapped 2 axels..

I thought about the hyper 7. I heard it was pretty tough.. but the TT S3 looks like the toughest buggy to me. I am not sure. I do know that I do not want a Mugen, xray, or kyosho. I am not planning to race, and i don't want to put that much money into it.

So...

What buggy do I get for toughness, speed, and reliability??
I may want to race one day, so I ruled out the Ofna Violator.

Right now my top three are the :

Ofna Hyper 7
Sportwerks Mayhem
Thunder Tiger S3

thanks for the input.

I have the Thunder Tiger EB4-S3. It's a worthy racer as well as a good basher. Overall design has it being very rigid and well designed with the laydown steering servo. Brake bias can be easily adjusted from front to rear with a turn of a screw. The new shock design has the front shocks behind the shock tower and runs through the middle of the control arms. Basically it's well protected during a nose dive.

It's a well balanced car and easy to drive. It's an absolute blast to drive. It's hard to find parts in the LHS but parts can be ordered at nitrohouse.com.
Click HERE for a thread I did on this buggy.

Look into Jammin X1CR as well. The price is near TTR EBS3. Both are good buggy.

They make the XB8r now that fits into that price catagory and also the plain mbx5, I've had a hyper and loved it. Those things are tanks, the mayhem requires alot of work to tear done and stuff. The TTR is a great buggy as well. It comes down to what you want to pay and what your lhs sells for parts.

I second the Ofna Hyper 7 Pro. It is built to last. Unfortunately though, the kit comes with probably the most god awful instructions. If you have never built a kit from scratch, I would not recommend trying to build this one... lol

To make your decision even tougher you need a vote for all your potential choices.....therefore I say Mayhem RTR.

A good all around buggy with a great radio. If you don't have a nice radio, this package is a good choice....If you already have good radio gear...buy a kit car.

Mr T

i have the hyper pcr and when i first got a look at it all i could say was "damn that thing is a tank" the arms are as big or bigger built then the savage!! i havent gotten to drive it a whole lot but from looking at it.. its tough..

XRC has a good article on buggies this month. Its a good read. Not that I agree with the outcome of their trials but there is some great info.

Hyper 7 or mayhem if you want to race and want durability. I know the hyper 7 is rock-solid because I own one, and I've also seen and heard good things about the mayhem as well.

my vote goes to the hyper 7 = rock solid buggy, is excellent for racing and basher, and it wont break your wallet.
the mayhem = excellent basher and a good racer, i am yet to see one at the track, but as long as you can find parts for it it will be fine, also the parts wont be as cheap as the ofna parts. but if you do get the mayhem make sure the you change the body, that thing is UGLY.

I'm surprised nobody metioned the xtm x-terminator ....ac48 had one said it took all kinds of abuse ...i havent drove mine yet so i can't give first hand experiance yet

Thanks for all of the replies. I do want to add that I have a JR XS3 pro, and although the mayhem comes with nice radio equipment, i don't need it.
I think I am going to go down the hyper 7 road.
I know that there are a lot of parts for the hyper 7, and being able to hop it up and/or repair it is really important to me.
Is there an artr model with engine but now radio equipment??
Is there a big difference between the pcr, pbs, rtr, and pro models??
Is the jammin a whole lot better??

thanks,
adrian

Ok, I just did some price comparisons on tower's site.

The jammin seems like a logical choice if I were to go the hyper pcr or pbs rtr route. It is not too much more and seems like a "better" buggy due to the changes (that I can understand that is).

I know that there are tons of hyper parts, but are there tons of jammin parts?
Will I get the parts and upgrade support like the hypers??
When the new hyper comes out, will my 7 be compatible with the new parts??
Ok, sorry for that.. I just don't want to throw away money either.
It sucks that I could get 2 ofna lx comps for the price of one jammin, but if it is really that much better, then why not??

haha

thanks for any and all input. I know you guys hate these which buggy threads, and I hope that my questions aren't below any of you.

One more.. I forgot to add..

The hyper tq sport kit looks pretty cool. I know I would have to buy an engine, but the kit comes with all the engine parts doesn't it?? (clutchbell, clutch, flywheel)
Is this the same buggy for the most part in comparison to the hyper 7 pro, or pbs, or pcr??

thanks,
adrian

I think of the 3 choices you presented, you would be happy with either 3.

You can buy a Hyper TQ. that is a roller from the factory. Also, the Ofna MBX R2 is not a bad buggy, and it comes as a roller for well under $200.

What is the mbx r2???
I am not familiar at all with that one.

RCX has a good artical about the top buggies as FastEddy mentioned (if you will, go pick up one and do your reading. It might help in making your decision). And Jammin X1 CR are one of them. I was suprised Jammin was rated better than Xray XB8. With almost half the price than XB8, Jammin is really not a bad choice. As for parts, don't expect they will be cheap (they are ofna's). However, look around on ebay and you will find good deals :)

There are not much upgrade parts for Jammin now. But, soon there will be. Also, there will be truggy conversion for Jammin. I am not sure when but I was reading some articles (don't remember where) and some said it will be out by end of this year.

IMO, for that same price range. TTR EB4 S3 will get my next vote and the next will be Hyper 7 PCR.

I would say TTR S3, but then i'm biased towards TT as its all I've ever run. Spares arent too bad, so long as you LHS either has em in stock or doesn't mind ordering in for you.

I tend to buy damn near a whole buggy worth of spares bar the chassis plate and engine. at least that way i know if i can't get the parts locally i can use the spares i have to hand replacing them at a later date. Its costly, but ensures constant running.
