RC Driving Style
Whaddup,

Well it's pretty apparent that their's plenty of RC "Wheelers" here but I wanna here from some real 4x4 guys.

We've got a good sized RC bash group @ times and many of these dudes (and gals) are straigt up hardcore Off roaders. Here in the high desert it's a WHeeler paradise and I try to make it to Moab and Az as much as possible.

I've got a mean ass 1994 Nissan Pathfinder (4door) in beige and I've put that truck though hell off road. It never lets me down and it impresses many "anti-import" people but it's a huge money pit. I've almost rolled it @ least 12 times and had to winch it off the side of a cliff twice (don't try that @ home kiddies)..hehe and it's still pretty as they get. It's beige so offroad scratahes are easy to buff off. The chassis on my Pathfinder is overbuilt to say the least but I've decided that it's just to nice to play with offraod anymore. Not to mention that the suspension gemoetry on Nissans doesn't like being lifted whatsover and I break lots of expensive parts because of the lift.

SO, I recently accquired a nice 1984 Chevy standard cab 4x4. Good ole Chevy 350 with flowmaster exhaust (more power then you need for even hardcore wheeling but ya gotta love the growl and the torque), Danna 44 rear and Danna 30 front. The tranny is the original 4 speed manual and the truck is geared so low that it will crawl up mean hills in first gear like it's child's play. I plan on doing a 3" suspension lift (no body lifts here...lol) with 33x12:50 mud tires (for now) on 15" REAL beadlock wheels. I'm gonna drive the stock tranny until it blows up (lol) and then I'll add some kind of tough "Turbo" tranny. I'm ordering an Electrac (electric locker...goes from LSD to Locked with the touch of a button...sweet) for the rear Danna 44 next month. The best part about this truck is that I got it for a whopping 0 dolllars. It had great 31x10:50 mud tires with good wheels and I only had to put about $500 into the engine and truck(Plus my labor) to get it running great. The paint is ugly but who cares....it's gonna be a beast. When I get around to actually putting a good paintjob on it, I wanna do sick as flames on the front that blend into a dark paintjob.

Peace

I had a nice 76 Blazer with a 350 I built, a muncie 465 4 sp and np205 transfer case, gm 10 bolt front, 12 bolt rear, and rancho 2 1/2" springs all around, no lift blocks. It was great, and set up for serious 4 wheeling, but it was high maintenance.

I had a 76 Blazer but it burnt to the ground. It was a total rust bucket. All but 1 body mount was rusted and when you went to stop the body moved foward and the same when you took off it went back. Had a set of 38s on it and also a 350 and even though it was ruff, it went through anything and everything. Now since Christmas and all the bills are caught up I think I am going to give the ole lady the Expedition and I am going to purchase a new 6.0 Powerstroke Diesel Ford F 350. Since I work at International and we make the Powerstroke I get a hell of a discount. Then do a little bit to it her and there.

SUp dude,

I've owned and bashed the hell out of many mean Toys in my days. A Toy pickup rear axle is beefy as hell IME and can hang with a Danna 30 or a Ford 9". Nissan rear axles are generally strong as hell too but I can break anything if I want to. We go up to Colorado @ least once a year for some serious wheeling. When I had my 1996 Yota 4x4 (4cyl to.hehe) it wasn't common for me to be winching out at least 3 stuck jeeps on a good day in CO..lol. Scary chit @ times to as many of the serious trails in Co. are often close to cliffs. My buddy has a LandCruiser with 6" lift.....front and rear lockers....35" muds...you name it. 6" is to much lift for my taste (more for looks IMO then perfromance as you that much more likely to roll) for serious offroading but he wheels the hell out of it.

I'm getting tired of paying through the teeth for expensive jap "hop-ups" though. I'm taking everything off my Pathy but the rear ARB Air locker (damn that compressor was a biotch to install) and keeping it for an "SUV" as I love her.

Peace

my uncles done the jeppers jamboree 6 times ina stock fj
i found a sick one with everything that you could possibly need for 6k

No more Wheelers huh.

What is it with Jeep people (not to generalize but I c this allot with Jeepers). Was in the office watching RealTV today and they where showing these people in an older CJ wheeling in a Rock quary. They where climbing a hill and the truck slide, whelied and weent sideways. The truck rolled and all four of the dumbass's where thrown out of the truck. Luckily none where seriously injured but those ignoramisis are luckly to be alive. People that don't wear a seatbelt are morons and if you get injured please don't expect the US government to pay for your ass.

Peace

Dont get the 6.0 liter BAD!! I've heard nothing but bad about the 6.0 get the 7.3 ask MC his friend has a 6.0 and he ahs had TONS of work on it because of rough idel just a whole bunch of engine work. If you do end up buying one invest in Ford clutches they go out quick.

I got an 82 chevy with a 350 (slightly modified) with a35x12.50 mu tires with 3.73 gears and a locker in the rear. about to go back down to some 33 x 12.50 tires.

I have to agree, I have been a diesel mechanic for 15 years now and we just bought 3 of the 6.0 powerchicken fords, all 3 have been back to the dealer for engine warrenty, the cummins 5.9 is the best light duty diesel in the world, (just my .02)

Well I havent heard much about cummns I know the Duramax sucks royal butt who would make a diesel with an alumin block??? If I was to make a truck it would ether have a banks diesel or cummins. Thats why I want a dodge or a older ford with the 7.3 liter.

Hey guys.

30% and the others. First off, major props to Nissan, I posted my beige one before the rebuild and all the adds ons. Here was my routine.

Work, stop get some gas, some mini-mart grub, soda, and a friend, or any chick brave enough to come with me hheheh. I' m still 15 minutes from 4x country.

We have three mountain passes that are two lane hi-way just a hop up the road. The cool thing in the way that they are arrange is you can start outon one, jump laterlly over the mountain at varying heights, and come out on the other pass. (they all cross the same mountain.) So when you reached the end of the trail you were on pavement, stop get a burger, and roll home on the hi-way.

Mon-fri any gas I could scrape up, I was mountain bound foir 3-4hrs. The cool thing about Nissan's $10 is a whole day in 4x low :D

The weekends, if I wasn't looking for a woman to go camping with, I was camping or upgrading my ride.

When I got a bit older I bought a Nissan especially for 4wheelin' 4wd, standard carb, short box, no carpet no rear bumper, from the factory. The day I got it I slapped on the 31.10-50's with some nice eagle rims, and re indexed the torsion bars for ride height and sponge. It's like a jeep, but turn key. You turn the Key, it starts. There was no need for any type of lift because the approach angles, and the short wheelbase. It does what jeeps do and I love it.

Later on I picked up a fiberglass dune buggy (VW based) I have one left. Those things are rockets. It takes a bit different driving style, but nothing says fun like a 50mph pass down a twisted mountain road with steering brakes. Hehehe Wheeling up a vertical embankment again with the steering brakes is a sight to behold ;)

You just can't explain a lifetime of 4wheelin' in a post. Those who have been there will belive some of the prediciments you've been in. While others will just never have a clue.

Some of the things I have seen on RealTV wouldn't hold a candle to what we've accomplished off road. As 30% said tho, we have roll cages, harnesses, seat belts, helmets for the buggys and first aid stuff.

Major killer on the Chevy man, second to Nissan my favorite is the mid-late 80's Chevy's small wheel base, lots of approach easy to lift. Easy to work on. Big enough for a payload, and short enough to get in between most trees. Not to mention they are quiet inside if not too cut up. You are going to have a blast.

I thought my nissan was too pretty to 4x too, but I just can't give up the turn key, plush ride, awesome heater comfortability.

The reason for R/C's? Well I got this stupid rheumetoid arthritis some days it's like I'm 18, others like I'm 80 and I can't get out of bed.

So when I hurt I play with the little 4x4's. When I hurt too bad wrench on the r/c's instead. and when I can't really do much, well.. here I am

Forgive my typing my fingers hurt, and this damned wireless keyboard is running out of batteries. (stole all the good ones ofr my nitro)

Yes I know all the problems that International has had with the 6.0 liter since I work there, but they are coming along. It is just like the 7.3 when they came out, they had problems to until they ironed them out and like you said the 7.3 is a great engine. We have a couple of vans with the 7.3 that the garage uses for hauling and and other stuff and both have over 300000 miles on them and they run just great. The 6.0 liter will be better once they sort the problems out.

Me and my dad go mud bogging every weekend. We has a stick shift 94 ford f150 with super swampers,a lift kit, And a winch. It is a beast.

You guys are gonna crack the phuck up when you c the POS that I'm currently driving (pics to come soon). The chevy I recently accquired is in the shop, My beautiful Nissan Pathfinder is all phucked up from little bro and my mean and beautiful RX-7 is getting wrenched by my mad scientist mechanic father. So I've got over 40K worth of cars and I'm currently driving a Grey dodge mini-van with bullet holes and two missing windows...ha (long story but I can't get the glass fixed). Talk about an ego check, one of the biggest ironies of life and cars is that you get just as many looks in a shitbox as you do a nice ass ride.

As for Nissan's and Jap trucks in general. Nissan is known for building trucks with overbuilt Chassis. I've never had any uni-body chassis problems with the Pathfinder and I romp the chit out of it. Like I said above to an extent, I'm tired of expensive Jap parts compared to comporable american and that's why I'm yanking everything off the Pathy and slapping it on the GMC (tires and wheels ect). For comparison sake, Good ring and pinion to lower your drive ratio on my Pathy averages $600 a diff (can you say phucking ouch), I can get great Ring and pinion for Danna axles for around $100 a diff...you do the math..lol. I love Nissans and Toys but I'm tired of the matinence and "hop-up" cost so I'm going american muscle wheeling and I'm not looking back.

Does anyone own a Nissan Xterra?? Sell it.....lol, that's embaressment to Nissan ever. The new 350Z that I was gonna buy kicks ass but the Xterra's are less then impressive to say the least. Nissan seems pretty hit and miss as of late.

Peace

My 96' hardbody was tough, durable and setup just the way I needed it ou t of the box so to say. I really didn't need to upgrade anything on it to get it to do what I needed it to. With 31-10.50's it was just the right gear ratio 4x low would crawl up anything. (I don't mud play much)

The old nissan was cool, it was an 84' causea lot of the parts were interchanable with their lower years. I got a 5 speed out of a datsun b210 station wagon for a replacment for it, for I think $35 from a junk yard.

If you want to do a lot of upgrades, like diff gears, trannny mods front end stuff, then yeah forgien gets pricey quick! Too pricey.

As for new nissan. Gah! How they went from a durable tough looking Hardbody to a weird looking plastic truck is beyond me. Maybe they we're trying to reach for a new market. Needless to say, I think they lost a chunk of their old "I like the tough simple" followers for sure. I don;t think I would buy a new nissan.

I have a 78 k5 blazer with a 350/th350 np203 case dana 44 front and 12 bolt rear with Eaton posi , 4:56 gears ,4 in. superlift springs front and rear ( no blocks ) runnin 35 in. Goodyear MTR's.I wheel quite a bit in the summer when I'm not bashing my savage!!
