I have the same problem. Now that this thread has me thinking about slot cars again, I've been thinking about a snall HO set, that I could shove out of the way, when it's not in use. I figure something with a lot of tight corners, should keep me interested.

I love the look of the 1/32 stuff, but I don't have the space for it.

yea the 1/32 and 1/24th is the fun stuff. I have alot of the HO stuff but it isnt no fun with your the only who wants to race. I also love the detail of these bigger cars. A few times I have allmost bought one just to set up on my desk as a model.

I picked up 6 more pieces of the long straight track today. Going to lengthen it a little this weekend. Also built some framework to support the hillside on the outside of the main straight. I went down cellar and did a section of hillside with plaster cloth tonight. I'm going to make them one at a time, in 2' or 3' sections, over on my RC workbench and do 95% of the landscaping on them there too. I'll put the color pigment, the turf, attach any rocks, and spray the whole thing with scenic cement(Elmer's white glue) which holds all the small particles of "Turf" on. When I put the sections on the track I'll only have minor stuff to do to tie them all in(some bushes and rocks maybe). The trick will be to make sure the seams aren't straight so they aren obvious when I go to hide them. I've updated my site again.....

I added 4' to my layout this morning and just finished 2 new pages on the website. Bought the wife a Carrera Corvette yesterday. I've put a "Table of Contents" on my site as well as a "Home" button on each page so you don't have to keep clicking back. Pages 10, 11 & 12 are new in the last 2 days.

LOL. I can't wait till the digital comes out so you can be able to pass somebody and cross over in front of them(depending where the lane changing track is placed and if you push your button)

So is Ninco supposed to be the best slot car brand out there. How does Carrera and SCX compare? I've never heard of Ninco before but my LHS's all carry Carrera and SCX kits and parts.

Dam I gave a nice detailed reply then noticed I had a PM and went to it without clicking "Submit Reply"........LOL. OK
I Have both Carrera and SCX cars. Neither are as fast as the Ninco and their brakes don't stop them as well. I think the Carrera magnets(for sissies handling LOL) are too close to the track and may hurt the motor after running them for long periods. Track is track. In my opinion (and that of many more, including a lot of owners of current digital sets) the other companies were in a big hurry to corner the digital market and came out with theirs too soon. They can't run their old Analog cars on the Digital systems. They can't run other brands. They don't sell parts to convert other cars to digital. Ninco waited until they developed their system so it could do all of that. Run all brands, Analog and Digital. Their Decoder chip will work in any car that has room for it to fit in. It's a simple install and they can run on analog track with the chip installed (the other brand digital cars won't run on analog track like mine is now). For Ninco cars you just unplug the motor from the pickup shoe and plug the chip in there then plug the motor into the chip. They you program the controller and car like the Spektrum DSM Radios. I just got lucky and bought the Ninco from the start.

I remember when I was a kid goin over one of my uncles house. He had a huge train setup in the basement. I always thought all that landscaping stuff was really cool but trains were never my thing. I guess I never really considered doing a slot car setup with all the landscaping detailing.. Very cool, very cool.

Been there with the trains too bro. In fact when I was younger (early 60s) my smaller train set had a couple of the train slot car crossings. That was back in the day when the controllers were little steering wheels that stayed on the table. You could set the speed and the cars would just go around the track without coming off. That way you could play with your trains at the same time.

I will spread it out..I have a 8'x8' area to work with..So I will be able to expand.The area will grow from there..I just need to figure out how I will get in to the room LOL

Nice. I'm sure there'll be a whole bunch of optional layouts in the instructions with that big set. I can tell by looking at it that it has some 1/8 circle pieces which is a big + when it comes to doing a layout. They give you a lot of ways to go without going up in the air. Myself, I don't like having too much track hidden from view because it's underneath other track and it just ain't natural. LOL

I put in a bid on Ebay for 2 F1 cars today. I never do Ebay but thought I'd try it. I WON!! 2 Brand new cars $29, 44 with shipping, thats 22 bucks a car!!
They are supposed to be one of the fastest F1 cars out there too.

I also bought 3 more F1 cars from a guy in one of the Slot Car forums. He's holding them for me till I get the good old V.A. check on Wed. They're brand new too.

That was cool....I just spent the last 1/2 hour or so going over my last 3 weeks of slot car history by reading this thread. Seems like everything is going as planned, growing by leaps and bounds. Been thinking about the 4x8 add-on at the right end of the layout. It might prove to present visibility problems for drivers at the far end. I'm thinking now about coming out only 3x4' maybe. Enough to make an interesting infield "Road Course" leading into a short Pit Lane straight down on that end. Have it come 3' towards the camera in this picture and 4' the length of the table.

I've gone as far as I possibly can for now. There's still about 6 feet past where I've stopped but I need to save some room for the N-Digital tracks. I lengthened it 32" more today, that makes the layout 24 feet overall and the main straight 20 feet. Tomorrow I'll start landscaping the turn leading into the main straight, being careful to make sure that it can be moved when I push the whole layout back another 4 feet for when I add the pit lane. I'm thinking that there will be more turns added where the second medium length straight is. Here's a teaser pic
