i'm having trouble getting my savage to pop some wheelies. i got it used, but nearly every single moving part has been replaced...i just haven't got to run it since the last batch of parts have been installed. i've got a 13 tooth clutch bell and a 52 tooth steel spur. i am waiting for the 3 speed tranny set to arrive....could that be the golden ticket? or could it just be the combo of old or worn parts that was holding me back? any tips would be super cool. thanks!:n00bie:

In my experience, the Sav should wheelie without much problem. What engine are you running? The trick is in 2 areas. Suspension and engine tuning. I'm of the opinion that engine tuning is probably the more important on the Sav. Shouldn't have trouble getting the wheels up with any big block. The trick is to get the hsn and lsn just right. If you search around, you'll find some good threads on easy ways to tune your mill just right. That should do it.

Like Candyman mentions, the secret is in the tuning and the size of the engine. I run the HPI 4.1 in my Savage and can bring it up at will. Problem is, popping wheelies becomes very boring after about a minute and then become very frustrating because you can't steer with the nose in the air!

Might help to know what engine you're running in it.

i am running a motor that was pulled from a stock savage x(.25 or 4.1)... i've got some new shocks also from a stock savy x. i probably need to get some decent weather...i sucks this time of year in iowa. am i correct to assume that warm weather (60 to 90) versus below 60 degrees or so would probably help the cause? i'm not wholly concerned with wheelies, cause thats not all it was designed for, its just nice to show off a lil bit, and i guess that is how you'd know your getting the most power from the motor.

i have trouble with my savage pulling wheelies..........even have the slipper clutch set a little less on tightness than its supposed to.........on top of that my savage weights 15lbs & still wheelies........wheelies so hard that if i mash the gas too much it flips over a complete flip backwards........I'm running a 52t spur also but a wasp28 engine..........40 weight oil in the shocks.........the cg is exactly center to center from front diff to back diff...........

i have a motor from a savage X, its a .25. i've got a 3 piece clutch set with adjustable aluminum clutch shoes, hooked up to a 13T clutchbell to a 52T steel/aluminum spur. i just installed the 3 speed conversion and a new 4 spider diff in rear, and i am doing the traxxas throttle linkage mod using the stock sf2 steering servo for the throttle to quicken the response. i am also going to lean in the lsn next time i run and see how it goes...i'm hoping it should get me some kind of wheelie action. its not the all important ability, its just the missing link i feel...shows that it is tuned in just so for good power and acceleration.

let me know if u guys think i am heading in the right direction here to get the results i'm after

also, if there is anyone close to the iowa, wisconsin, illinoise area that could maybe help me out with running and learning some better tips for tunning in this climate, let me know:hammer:

Sounds like your headed the right direction to me. Let me know how you like that cb/sg combo, I've been thinking about trying it myself, not for wheelies but because all the tracks here are short and I need as much low end accelleration as I can get.

thats why i wanted that set up...smaller areas to run, and more torque. i think i've been having a problem with engine tuning, so i figured i'd gear it lower. plus, i am mainly going to be bashing, and trying some crazy off road stuff and wanted all the help i could get in tight spots. i was going to go lower on the clutch bell, but i didnt know what would fit or work well (12 tooth or lower and over 52 tooth)

Why are you running 13/52 gears? That gearing is way too steep and you will have no top end. I get out of control wheelies with a really old Picco .26 and 18/47 gears. My old HPI .25 would wheelie with the stock 15/49 gears if I had it tuned right. I would not bother with the 3-speed.

Small areas/short tracks you don't need top end. Besides, experimenting with gears is cheap and then you will know for sure what works for you. I agree with the not needing the 3 speed, my buddy has one but I haven't seen any advantage from using it. Here's what happens to your body with too many big wheelies and no sissy bars.

That gearing is way too steep for a big block truck.
