so i had a set of savage wheels on my maxx and the hub spun out and instead of being hexagonal shaped, its a circle.

so i was thinking of doing aluminum wheels and aluminum hubs. I'm just wondering if this would cause a weak point in other parts of the drivetrain.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still running the 2.5 with a 3.3 engine. still got the stock driveshafts all the way around.

There are pins that snap into place to hold the plastic hubs on. The aluminum ones do not snap in.. so every time you pull the wheels off the hub will also come off, and chances are you will lose those tiny pins. Aluminum wheels are expensive.. it's your dime on that one. The most likely reason for the hub to round off is that the wheel nut wasn't tightened enough or came loose. Those nylon locking nuts wear out after so many times of being put on and taken off. I would replace those on occasion if i were you.

Well I guess ill have to get new nuts! Hahaha. It was funny in my head.

But anyway thanks for the info. No aluminum for me.

Alloy hubs and upgrade to 17mm if you really want more durability. I had to bite the bullet a few years ago when I got an LRP28 for my aftershock. Started spinning out 14mm hex's every time I ran it. Ever since I switched to 17mm alloy hubs and plastic 17mm wheels, no more issues.

Up to that point, I ran 14mm alloy hubs without issue on all my MT's. I'd get an occasional burnt hex, but that was usually due to the hubs I bought not having sharp edges on the hex part. Some are more rounded than others.
