Just wondering if these Revo/Maxx wheel extensions i keep seein on Ebay are any good..??
Any real benifits or are they just for looks..??
I've seen some pics of Revos with them on and they look tough to me..
They say they will add an extra 1.5 inches to my wheel base but i have to go back to 14mm instead of 17mm hex..
Is that bad also going back to 14mm.. Whats the advantage of the 17mm's..??

PS: afta my thread about how bad i smashed my Revo, i now have it all fixed and took it down my local bmx track and had it doin backflips easily 8ft in the air:whhooo:.. I'm 6ft and it was well over my head.. took iy home and all it needed was a clean.. :) I'm one happy man
 
I was also wondering about the extensions. I love the wider stance. The only issue that I can think of is that it would put more stress where the wheels mount.
 
i saw those to ...not sure if they are good ...what wheels do you have ?? ..do you have the revo 3.3 offset wheels ?? if not , you might want to try them ..i tried normal wheels on mine ..and i always go back to the offset ones ...the truck is much more stable with them ;)
 
I ran them on a buggy once just so I could run MT wheels/tires, but it put a heck of a lot of stress on the axle bearings and burned them up pretty quick. Most 1/8 buggies use larger bearings than a t-maxx and if they burned up on a buggy, the maxx bearings don't stand a chance.

The most I'd do would be to get some offset rims. Maybe 1/2" at most.

I believe 0 offset means that the center of the hex of the wheel is at the center of the wheel relative to the front/back of the wheel. 1/2" offset would mean that the center of the hex is one half inch from center towards the back side of the wheel, effectively offsetting your stance by 1" total (1/2" on each side).

Although, that doc appears to be referring to standard t-maxx wheels which if you look at the doc they have negative 1/2" offset and is referred to as "standard maxx offset".

if you have the newer revo 3.3 model, it comes with offset wheels...if you look at my pics , youll see them ..i modified them a bit ( painted green and studded ;) ) but those wheels make the truck 1 inch wider than normal wheels ..i love them ...i have that green set with studs ....and a stock set

I got a few sets of rims with different offsets and never really thought about where the hex screws on and how it wld make a difference..
 
what did you use as the studs..?? looks like just self tapping screws..?
Think that a great idea..
wld there be more chance for the tire to tare..??

thats exactly what i used ..self tapping screws ...and i glued a piece of denim fabric inside the tire....then i put the screws in ...that way the tire doesn't expand at high speeds ;)

also ..a trick to make sure the screws are in the right place , is to use a small drill bit and drill the holes from the outside of the tire ;)
 
oh is that how you get the tires to stop expanding..??
I thought my tires must not be glued properly and air is getting in some where..??
It only ever seems to be my front right tire that does it..
Do i have to use denim or can i use any strong fabric..??

you dont have to use one certain thing. You can use duct tape on the inside of it and that would work just fine.. many things work, some people just have different things laying around to try..

no prob dude ;) thanks

i red that some people use duct tape ...but i preffer fabric ( any fabric should work ) what i did , was to scuff the inside of the tire real good , cleaned it good ...then i used '' shoe goo'' to glue the fabric in

there are air holes inside the rims ( 2 per rim ) ..i tried blocking them with tape ..well....i didnt like it ..i lost some speed and if your tires are not sealed completly , one might expand while the others dont ...makes the truck very hard to handle ..so i took the tapes off the holes ...but if they have fabric or tape in them ..the air holes are not an issue .... the more they expand , the more speed youll get ;)
 
Instead of duct tape on the inside of the tires, use strapping tape. The tape has fiber glass filaments to hold the packages together. It seems to work better for me to keep the wheels from ballooning.
 
oh yeah I've got some of that fiber glass tape..
ill use that instead..I've got shoe goo too but not sure if u have heard of a product called Stormsure.. its like shoe goo but a hell of alot stronger so I'm gonna try that instead..

Tyres are not my strong point so i usually by preglued tyres and i never seem to have much luck with them.. to the point i try to stick to grass and dirt only..
