It's been a while sinced my last post (domestic duties/work) but have managed to get some bash time in. Since i got my 4908 3.3 I've had the newbie struggles of tuning and driving. but am now becoming fairly competent at both! Recently though I've been working on suspension tuning and managed to prematurely wear the rear hub bearings (too much toe in I think) and the steering linkage is now also very sloppy. I found the golden horizons steering linkage, looks good at a decent price Anyone have input on that and decent wheel bearings that are better than stock but not pricey like ceramics? Thanks for your input and patience reading this long a.. post
 
Wheel bearings on a MT are some of the hardest working and shortest lived bearings in a truck. For me, I go cheap and keep bearings on hand.

I know traxxas has a hub that runs larger bearings, just not sure which trucks it started coming on. RPM hubs also run larger bearings. The larger the bearing, the longer they last.

These are the traxxas ones with larger bearings required:

I just realized that this was a t-maxx... I'm pretty sure revo carriers work on the later model t-maxx's as well.

For bearings, I usually just hit up fast eddy and buy a few extra ($1 a piece makes it easy to have spares). They last a decent amount of time and run fairly tight.


Does the 4908 have a saver built into the linkage or is it a servo mounted saver?

Olds, the 4908 does have the saver built into the crank. The whole steering setup is a direct bolt on to the older maxx's. In some cases, not sure what models exactly, one of the steering posts are molded into the chassis. A quick cut with a dremmel is all it takes to fit the updated crank, or the proline kit.
 
one word: BOCA

you can't beat a set of their green seal bearings in a MT. They last forever and are just great bearings IMO.

Here is a full set for your truck. I believe it replaces every bearing on the vehicle. Steering included.

Honestly I didn't feel that they held up any better than the ones I linked to. I tried boca's a few times for misc things. Wheels, trans, CB, they all last about the same. Avids are shorter lived though. Dollar for Dollar, fast eddies do the job for me.

The boca engine or ceramics may be good, but I've never spent that kind of dough there.
 
thanks for the info guys, i'll follow the links and see what i can fit into my budget. I like the idea of the ceramics but the price is steep maybe someday down the line but right now i'm trying to distribute my funds throughout the truck.
Olds... the servo saver is built into the linkage and i think this probably adds to the slop in the steering. I've found that some parts are better thought of as disposable as they wear and break ( you know... oops another wreck or bad landing) such as control arms and knuckles. I think i want to keep thesed stock as break points or "crumple zones therefore protecting the chassis
