Hi fellas.
Just wondering - what is wrong with 3racing Sakura?
Since i've started looking at this hobby (pbly 10 years ago) i was looking as D4 for drifting.
Now i'm nearly ready tu build a chassis and did a bit of investigation which chassis to choose and found that many people suggesting to not go for D4(5)(6)
Most drifters advice to start with MST or Kyosho.
Unfortunately i still like D4 for a few reasons - it looks nice to me, it's belt-driven, it's AWD (which means i can convert it to 2wd if i decide to struggle a bit)
and i completely don't like how suggested chassis looks. cheap-ish, plastic-ish too simple-ish.

So would you be so kind to share your experience - why D4 isn't as good as in my thoughts
I'm not planning to race competitions, just some parking fun
Also i don't appreciate rtr's as really enjoy building cars

Because it's 4wd, mostly. You can drift with a 4wd car but it's not going to have the same dynamics as a rwd car. Some people in that community think RWD is the only way to go. Sounds like you aren't planning to do that kind of drifting so just get what you want, imo.

I would go with the D4 and make it a 2wd. I'm not an experienced drifter, but from everything I've read, 2 wheel drive is easier. And since you already like the D4 it makes sense. Take into account, I suck at drifting, 🤣 I have a four wheel drive and it makes it tougher. had I known that I would have bought a 2 wheel drive. My car drifts better in reverse. At least you did your homework first. :thumbs-up:

It is really unexpectable.
I thought there will be penty of people who experienced with Sakura drift chassis...
At the end of a day it doesn't come clearer for me )))
it seems like D4 is a perfect chassis with no cons, just pro's )))

Well, hope some1 else will reply
(as i really know how will it be. i will not see more comments, order chassis and unless it's arrive - i will receive quiet a few comments with full list of "why you don't have to build this one) )))

That's how it goes sometimes. Been there. We don't have a lot of drifters in the forum yet. Now if you ask about crawlers. 🤣 Wish I could give you some definitive answers.

AWD or 4WD is more power sliding and not really drifting. Also keep in mind your speeds will be MUCH higher than they would with a RWD chassis, and your attack angle likely much less. AWD cars can also have some odd tendencies when counter-steering to get out of a slide, and may have a tendency to snap hard the other way on you.

completely agreewith you. i understand this.
my idea is to try awd, and then to convert to 2wd (yes i do imagine how difficult it can be)
I'm not going to go on track, to chalange some1. just some fun on a parking with nobody around )

Do you have a gyro? It is good for 4wd drifting but even more important for 2wd, imo

(ok as I posted on my Sakura D6,) Its really an interesting build to start off with, definitely not a chassis for someone who looks at a straightforward build of an rc chassis. The build spec might qualify as entry level, but by no means was it an entry level build , after i assembled it I had a few frustrations.
If you look at my post and, check out my pics, you'll notice my Sakura has a valenion in the mid upper mount, after trying a lighter can, in different positions, I could'nt get the turns I wanted primarily because the power to weight ratio just had me front skidding , i added weights and brought it up to about 1447 grams, with an 85/15 weight balance , and tried different shock and alignment set ups ( a lot of youtube videos and frustration with different kind of settings etc.
It came down to me and my son in law asking the question........what if we tried the valenion?????? also you can see in the pics I have posted the front shocks are inverted, and my alignment is full tilt as it goes, finally the right balance and weight mixture finally has it where I wanted it to be. I'll tell you its out of the box a top tier car, I shoul've probably not gotten into drift with such a chassis, but waited until I had a better grasp on rc drifting, a lot closer to entry level would have saved me a few grey hairs, that being said, I would'nt trade it for anything, and I love my MST RMX 2.5 as well, but in hind sight the RMX would be amuch better choice. remember it aint what you drive, but how much you enjoy it

Hey...speaking as someone who has 2 sakuras, they rock! I have that exact 4WD belt model too! If you want to buy it be aware of these two main flaws:
Due to the belt, it's really hard to find a place for the gyro.
There are absolutely no directions, so you need to figure it out on your own.

most of the reasons why its not as recommended/used is based around it having the capability of AWD, not necessarily because it IS AWD.
the front end is more restricted in design to allow changing back and forth, also has more components/weight up front because of this.
given AWD is not the favorite trend, it doesn't have lot of the "new" stuff and updates/upgrades other chassis are getting as they are always revising them.

if you want the option to do both, dont see anything wrong with it. it wont be as good at rwd drifting as a true RWD chassis, but if it meets your needs why not.
