i recently crashed my t-maxx and when i took it hope i discovered that i had lost my air filter. now i need to buy a new one before i run it and i was woundering if you can tell a performance between different brands. should i get an aftermarket one, or should i just buy another stock one. i was thinking about a cold air system.

i run motor savers also, but I've had the screen cap pop out before on me from awkward (IE:crash) landings, so id recomend a mugen/1/8 scale buggy type filter that uses a screw to hold the end cap on. those will fit on the trx 2.5 neck.

Huh. Never had, or heard of the Motorsaver cap popping out. I believe you, and would have agreed Motorsaver as the filter of choice, but now I have to go with the 1/8 scale idea as well, but add that the Motorsaver outer filter should also be used. It really helps in the dust that most people incounter with MT's.

The buggy filters don't breath as well as the motor saver. I had an XTM cheapy 21 filter that came in my 21 conversion and I had OS's filter that came with my OS 21 RG. I ran those filters for the better part of a year.

I just recently tried a motor saver and the engine ran a lot better. I had quicker spool up through the RPM's and it doesn't get near as dirty as quickly due to the outside of the can pre-filter. It's easy to pull that off, rinse, oil install vs messing with the internal filter.

I think HPI makes a motor saver wannabe filter that's cheaper if $ is a big concern.

Thank you guys for the replys, so none of you would use the cold air. that is what i originally wanted, but now i am going to go with a motor saver.

i would also say the motor saver they breate awsome and i have never heard of the the cap popping off, you must of put it in wrong

Another Vote for the Motor saver. I run one on my PCR Pro, MBX5, Savage 25 and my XXX-nt. They are pricey but for the protection you get it is worth it! I run in really dusty areas so the protection is welcomed. Just make sure that you cllan and oil them periodically. I clean them with nitro fuel. I let the fuel drip towards the top of the foam not backwards. That way most of the dirt travels away from the base. Then I clean them with soap and warm water. Let them dry completly and then re-oil them well. Drop em in a baggy and add air filter oil.

I was reading somewhere that motor savers don't help much on the stock 2.5 engine and that tuning will be more numerous. Is that true???

I found the motor savers to be a waste on the stock 2.5.....I always hada my needles closer to the rich side...so close that I found some cases where I needed to be richer than the needle was allowing me to go...the 2,5 is designed to run w/ specific airflows through the stock filter....the motor saver is a great upgrade if you are going to get a better engine eventually....if you're staying w/ the 2.5 then I say stay w/ the stock filter......cheap and cheerful......just my opinion..

To porous. Even with the oil, the small particals of dust can potentially get through. On a 1:1 auto, it's not as big of a deal because the RPM's are way less and the internals of the engine are constantly bathed in oil.

But at 40,000 RPM's with mild oil in the fuel, fine dust gets through and grinds the piston down.

Or, at least that's the theory's I've read...

The motor saver is a great air filter. I would go with the same type of filter just withouth the pre filter cause it may decrease the amount of airflow to the enigne (not sure though). Plus if your going to a track with your maxx I personally wouldnt use a prefilter. I have the S-maxx with the same filter just without the pree filter (plus its a couple bucks cheaper).
