The shock caused by the diff being locked. Killed it. The out side wheel will travel faster in a turn than the inside.....if you are power on in a turn and you hold traction the stress HAS to go somewhere. Since the power can not transfer from wheel to wheel in a turn the stress travels back to the transmission. I did a couple highspeed passes then whipped it around real fast and hammered it. I knew I had screwed up as soon as I did it and wa-la my tranny shelled. It is just bad news for most aplications.

Isn't there a center diff available for the Revo? If he did that along with locking the rear that would give the excess power somewhere to go while giving him the straight line stability he is looking for.

there is one available but if i am not mistaken (correct me if i am wrong) but if he has reverse and wants to keep it he can't have a center diff

Lessen and Rob, I think you are both correct. The center diff would transfer that power to the front if he got too much traction and would maybe keep him from shelling out. Good point. Rob, I am 99% sure you are correct, I have not looked it up but the diff took up a lot of the space that had the reverse guts in it. Personally I would throw some 75-100K oil in the rear and call it a day. It would not be a “locked” diff but it sure would stiffen it up and in a straight line it would be as good as the possi-traction offered a locked diff but with the benefits of having the stress relief of the diff.

i got rid of the reverse a long time ago my question with the center diff is what if I'm going thru mud frount and rear diff unlocked isent power only going to the frount or rear if its slipping

If I was you, I would just throw some 100k+ oil in the rear diff and call it good. If you do that; it will be damn stiff, but will keep some of the benifits of the diff in turns and such. You would not even have to worry about the center diff or messing with your transmission at all. Keep your wheelies....lots of power to the rear. However, some handling will be sacrificed.

Stock diff oil is 30K, bump up to 100K, it will make a difference. Lockers are for rock crawling electrics. The center diff greatly enhances cornering speeds and does protect the tranny some, but not as much as I would like. I'd go with the electric one speed tranny, it would be durable with very little sacrifice in power. I do not know if that is possible or not. You'd need to regear if it fits. The swaybars are a great addition as well. They help keep all 4 tires planted. They work great for bashing, they're not just for racing.

The Traxxas sway bars fit and work the best, forget the Tekno set.
