OK, so I bought a old t-maxx 2.5 for my first nitro because I wanted something fairly durable and easy to learn on. Anyways, I bought it off a guy second hand and he said it was his sons before he went to colledge and it had sat for 2 or 3 years. It had various parts missing but nothing crutial. So I went and got the parts from my local hobbie shop put them on and now I'm just wondering, Should I do a break-in proccess on it or Just drive it lightly for a few tanks?

If you're comfortable, you could always disassemble the motor and check the internals out. In my opinion though, I think you'd be alright to fire it up, run it lightly for a bit and just see how it does, and as you get comfortable with it, run it harder.

It is probably a good idea to take the carb off and soak it in a bit of good, fresh fuel to get any gummy stuff out of there, otherwise you might have tuning nightmares. Take your HSN and LSN settings back to stock and start from square one, also.

It doesn't really matter how long an engine has been sitting, once its broken in, its broken in.

Yeah, I would also reset the carb back to factory needle settings. You could try to spray some WD40 in the carb and take the plug out and spray some down there as well. Turn the motor over for a minute or so, turning the truck upside down to get the excess WD40 out and try to fire it up. I would also replace all of the fuel tubing just to be sure that there is no gummed up fuel hiding anywhere.

I agree, once the motor has been broken in, it is broken in...that is if it is an old motor, if it is new, of course you will have to do the break in procedure. Seeing as it hasnt been run in YEARS, I would also run it lightly to see how it is going to perform.

I buy a lot of used nitros,IMO you need to take anything that is said about it with a grain of salt. Check it out as much as you can before you buy then check EVERYTHING out after you buy it. Then I always take it easy for the first tank I run through tit.

Ok, thanks for all the help guys! I checked the truck over as much as i could and i only noticed some minor things missing. They were no problem for me to put on. But me being new the nitros i didnt want to start pulling apart the motor and then not knowing how to put it back togeather. Also, theant would after run oil be a decent substitute for WD40?

get it tuned in to your local climate and run the snot out of it. Its beek broken in long ago. If it seems to have hot starting problems or loss of power then it may be time for a rebuild. Be sure you play with the tunes for a while though since these motors can be a bit finicky for a newbie. Oh and if you don't have the manual go the Traxxas website and download it. They are very well written and helpful to understand tuning process.

Yeah, WD40 is the same difference. WD40 will attach itself to and displace any water molecules in the carb and inside the motor, as well as providing a good base lube and protect the metal from rust. I use only WD40 on mine. As I had mentioned quite awhile ago, I was running my maxx in an overgrown field, and I drove the damn thing into a 3 foot deep hole that was filled with water, the Tmaxx was submerged. I took it home and sprayed it thoroughly with WD40 inside and out (and spent alot of time with the hair dryer to make sure that nothing stayed wet) and have not had any issues with the motor or electronics.

+1 on the manual from the traxxas website, very useful.

yeah that flow chart is awsome very helpfull!!!!! and congrats on the maxx I think yo will love that rig!!!!!!!!! i do... the one thing you might want to get if you plan on keeping the revers is a battery pack for the truck... my classic if I run rechagable batteries in it I can use reverse maybe 5-6 times with no problem (if its tuned good and idleing fine..) and then it will stop being able to take it out of gear and put it in the other after that point... the pack atleast lets you get through a couple tanks before you really start haveing issues with shifting..... sometimes it has to work harder if the idle is high because of the presure on the gears ..... just a helpfull little hint and some of my .02..
