Here is the "short" version of whats happened in the last 2 months. Bought my first nitro (revo) at the end of Jan. It ran hot(250) on the first tank, me being a newbie thought it was just picky and richened it up until temps settled down and kept going with break-in.I also took the needles out and flushed the carb out with fuel. After about 1/2 gallon of constant tuning and over heating (290-300) I said screw it and bought an OS 18tm. After about six tanks I noticed there was fuel coming out the slide valve on the carb aparently effecting power, sometimes there sometimes not. I sent it back to OS and it will be covered under warranty. While the OS was out I started messing with the 2.5 again (new carb body, RTV the backplate, new fuel tank and line) still smokin hot at factory settings. Talked with Traxxas several times and they seem determined its an air leak. Took it in to the LHS and he says there is something wrong with the sleeve because there is more "pinch" at the bottom of the stroke than at the top, so I guess I'll be sending it back to Traxxas. Now for the part that really has me stressed out. Went out today and bought a new Revo "for my son" and at break-in at factory settings I hit 250 on the first tank. I flushed the fuel tank before even starting and also the carb after the high temps. I have the HSN at 4.5 turns out and its still hot. I've ran ran 1 tank through it and am stopping til I get more info. I am running O'Donnell 20% in this one. I ran O'Donnel and traxxas fuel inthe first one with no difference. AM I CURSED?

250 isnt over heating, its almost perfect u just dont want ur engine to get in the 270 or above range, so ur sons engin isnt over heating. hope this helps a little.

From what I've heard and read 250 is hot for break in settings which are usually pretty rich. I started to run the second tank and hit 285 at 4.5 turns. Somethings wrong ,again.

Yes that is a little hot and especially if u were hitting 285, not sure what the problem is but there is definitely one. have u tried richening the hsn on the new revo

in very small incraments

First 250 is fine and you should keep the engine at factory settings. Did you watch the DVD it explaines alot.
You should also break the engine in on Traxxas Top Fuel then switch to O'donnell. Casue some people experience over heating with O'Donnell.
Are you running %20 if you are stay with it.

I'm at 4.5 turns now thats a 1/2 turn richer then factory settings. I should'nt have to have it that far out.

um when i had a t-maxx i had it at 5-1/2 to 6 turns out and the stock settings were 4-4.5 turns out so. i personally hate traxxas stuff, mainly the engines but I'm jsut bitchin now and not helpin so. yea good luck on the os engine u got comin from them hope its better.

Try putting the hsn back to factory and tweek your lsn an 1/8 of a turn out... do this intill your temps drop to 230 may be a little higher... then do the break in but get it stable at thoese temps first..

First of all, thanks for your help. It's about 50 out, I know that it will run a little leaner with the cooler air but a half a turn is quit a bit

Zandor, I'm already out past flush on the LSN. Also when I pinch the fuel line to kill it it runs for about 8 seconds. I'm putting out quite a bit of smoke and unburnt fuel, but it seems really peppy with no bog. I've also checked my temp gun with ice and boiling water and it seems pretty close.

All right put you carb back to factoy settings. Then start it let it warm up then get a can of wd40 and check for air leaks..spray it around the the base of the heat sink and the back plate and the carb if there is a air leak your idle will go up were there is a leak..

OH and if at the pinch you are getting 8 seconds your to rich on the low end It should die right around 3 secs

I might do that and I might take it it back to the LHS. RTR is supposed to be ready to run not ready to remedy :hammer:

LOL, all nitros are dificult, especially the 2.5, if u know the guys at the lhs good then go for it but they may just try and take all ur money thats how it was for me.

Not to sound like a buttwipe, but have you tested your thermometer on boiling water? Maybe it's off?

Boiling water: 100 degree Celsius or 212 degree Fahrenheit

Just a thought.
