What is a good drop in swap motor for a rustler?
A budy of mine needs to replace his pro .15 and wants something reliable and easy to tune.

I was thinking something like this O.S. .18 CV-RX
Would this be a good bolt in upgrade?

Thanks,
MIke

Some people love the TRX2.5,some hate it. I always liked it in my Rustler, lots of power. The Fantom .18 seems to be the mill of choice over at Traxxas . com, other than the 2.5. I think the 2.5 is the easiest to "drop-in". others need to be cut. I would do the 2.5,then the OS.

One of my engines is a .18cv and it is very reliable and easy to tune. Tower Hobbies has a really good price on it right now (82.99 for the cv-r, 92.99 for the cv-rx I think). If you're willing to spend more that, the new .18tz really hauls ass.

The OS .18 CVR-X is a great engine. It is supposed to have 1.6 HP.OS engines are very reliable too.

If the rustler is the .15 I don't think the 2.5 will just drop right in..you will have to do a conversion..Don't hold me to that I have never owned one..
But I do now that the .15 maxx you had to do a conversion to it because of the rotery carb to slide carb

i dont think soo cuase the motor mount is diffrent. I just did mine and i got the kit and it had a new motor mount in it and a peice that archs over the spur gear.

i have both the .15 pro and the 2.5. and i see no difference in the motor mounts. so i think the engine will drop right in. 2.5 is a good engine, pretty reliable. But after i blew that one up i tried a team orion .18 for the tmaxx, i had to grind the mounts down a lil. but it went right in. I had trouble with 2 of them, so i traded the 3rd. Not too great of an engine. Now i have the picco .21, theres some power for ya, new era makes the conversion for that. http://www.neweramodels.com/cgi-bin...omhcnrhinoywaejhxhalowybneltkpxj&part_id=2181

I have the 2.5 trx in mine (brand new). The engine has not been a problem at all. Easily tuned, runs strong, and goes way to fast to contro :D.
