Comparing say 21 bb engines, what makes some of them bettter than others? Some last longer than others and some run better?

I would think that the life of an engine is primarily dependent on how you treat it. If you treat it right and have it tuned properly the you are prolly gonna get a longer life out of it then you would if you were running it lean and overheated all the time.

also i think that some of them are made a little different than others. i have had 2 megatech .16's and ran them almost the same and 1 went out before the other and 1 of them ran better and this and that.

Yeah but almost goes a long ways in reasoning why one engine lasts longer than the other. You could have had them tuned similar but not the same. The slight difference goes a long way.

There are several factors, Here are a few.
Tolerances,
Number of ports.
Metal compounds.
Weight.
Bearings.
Carburetor style

Its the same as an automobile engine. The more refined you get the more expensive it becomes.

What is better?
A racing engine isn't necessarily a better engine for your needs.
You will need to choose the elements that are most important for your needs and go from there.
