My brother is going to give me his savage. Its the savage .25 and it needs a new motor and was wondering if a PICCO 3.5 would be good for the truck? or what you would guy think is a good one for it?

Is this the engine that you have in mind?
P3 .21 Basic Pull Start Engine (P3-4600)
Cubic capacity: 3.49cc
Stroke: 16.8
Bore: 16.26
Rpm: 27,000 - 28,000

If so, I'll go out on a limb and guess you'll find yourself looking for more power after running it for a short time.

If not, what Picco model number are you looking at?
How much are you looking to spend?

There are quite a few engines that do just fine in the savage.

There's a new 28 by dynamite that a few people at the LST forum have run and liked:
Dynamite big red

The Dynamite Mach 427 gold or teal are also fairly good for the money.

If you want to spend a bit more, the LRP 28 Spec 3 is a fuel drinker, but puts out good power. I run one in my aftershock and savage. The LRP 30 is also getting great reviews.

The picco 28 has been liked by many in quite a few of the larger/heavier MT's. Bit more power than the LRP28.

There are many others as well.

For the savage with it's drive train issues, I'd stick more with a 26-28 engine. More RPM's and less torque will help center cups last longer and possibly give you less diff headaches.

i dont now that much about the motor. there is a guy that is selling one for 50 bucks and i was looking into geting it. but i dont want to if its not fast. I'm looking for something that is fast. and I'm willing to spend the money on a good motor.

Then I'd probably lean towards the picco 28. You should be able to find quite a few youtube vids of guys running the picco in various MT's to get a better feel for it.

Since you don't know much about it I'll just throw out some thoughts.
Is the engine new or used?
Personally I would avoid any used engines unless you know the owner and the engines history and you feel comfortable with both.
If new, why is he selling it?

I think you'll be disappointed if the Picco you're looking at looks like this...

For that matter I think the Savage is more of a truck than most 21's can handle - and those that can handle it tend to be bump start - which won't work in the Savage.

I think Olds has given you several engines to choose from that will make you a happy camper.

That is what the motor looks like and its used and i dont now the guy. He said that he only ran two tank through the motor so i dont now if he is lying or what. but he said that it has alot life left in it. so i will look on you tube at the picco.28 and see what i think of them.thanks for the pointers

stay away from AXIAL i just bought a brand new axial 28rr the pinch was so tight i broke 3 pull starts then i heated the motor with a hair dryer and snapped the backplate
