I've got a 'modified' 19 turn speed gem in my T3, no idea what the term 'modified' means.

It's a motor that's not a closed endbell motor. On a mod motor you can ajdust the timing and replace the brushes and cut the com....basically it's an adjustable, rebuildable motor. I think most have ball bearings, but some lower end ones have bushings.

Well it sounds like the better of the two. It makes that buggy fly thats for sure (especially now that I put lock-tite on the pinion gear set-screw).

A mod motor is a motor with an armature with less then 27 turns. All "stock" motors are 27 turn.

Stock motors also have different magnets for instance a mod motor usually have 4 magnets where a stock legal motor has two when it comes to the turns it all in the armature wire wrap of the motor 27 coils 19 coils thru the armature

Do they let you use modified motors in races?

Yes in modified class. You'd be best to stick to stock class when you start out.

I'm glad I ask questions, I don't want to look like too big of a noob next summer.

Stock class and 19T which is a limited mod class using 19 turn motors are usually the biggest classes at tracks.

Most people start out and alot stick with stock class, to gain experience and it fit's the budget much better.

werd....the mod motor is usually too much power for a novice racer and costs a lot more money to run/maintain than a good monster stock pro (27T) motor.........

but bashing in a mod motor car is a blast too!

I got motors fron 14t through 27t and they make a car FLY around the house. Not everyone races. ;)

Slower motor

This may sound like a ridiculous question but... :hammer:

How do a make a slower vehicle. I am building an E-Savage for my son to run when I run my Savage. He is 4 and has mastered the radio but can't handle the speed. I am new with the electric motors and can't figure out how to slow down the truck. Can you gear down to emaxx trans and what motor would be the "slowest"

Thanks,

Brian

you could put a resistor inbetween the motor and the esc i think and that should slow it down

but you would want a motor with alot of turns

and if the raido is a good radio you can turn down the percent of throutle (sorry for the spelling) which means when your at 100 percent the reciver is only give the motor like 50% power

run a 27t stock motor and fewer cells like 4 or 5 to slow it even more.

I have a few stock motors, you can have one free if you pay shipping.

To do that on an e-maxx you'd also have to change out the esc. I think the EVX requires at least 12 cells to operate.
If you wanted to, you could probably just take out one of the motors. It'd put a lot of strain on just the one motor that's there, but it'd make it slower, you can run 12 cells on it, and you can replace it when he gets better at driving...the stock Titans are pretty cheap to replace.

actually you can adjust the EPA (End Point Adjustment) and dial it back to 50% which means at full trigger he is only getting 50% of the power....that should help
