Hello guys! I have a 8 week old Blue Heeler/ Dalmatian pup and he seems to chase after everything I throw to fetch. A tennis ball, slipper, old shoes, sticks, you name it.

I was wondering if I can train him to chase after an RC car so I fired up my savage and he seems to be a little scared of it so i was thinking of getting something small and electric for him to chase around until he gets old enough to chase a 1/8 nitro truck.

What do you guys recommend that doesn't need upgrading out of the box that i can just whip around our small yard and pool area?

Hoping to spend less than $200 but any convincing advice is nevertheless appreciated.

I would go with a brushed Stampede. It can run in most terrains, is waterproof incase it ends up in the pool, and is pretty tough right out of the box! On Tower Hobbies you can get it for $200 plus shipping.

What does happen if he catches it?

I've bought a few of the ECX Smash's and they are great on the road and dirt but are all but useless on grass or much of any other obstacles.

So I too would suggest going with a Traxxas Stampede or even the ECX Ruckus which is 1/10th scale, waterproof and includes everything to need to run it for less then your $200 price point.

It's discontinued (@Rolex), I think the fact that it used AA batteries really killed it. They offered a battery pack for it but by the time you upgraded it, you were close to the price of ECX's brushed 1/10 Ruckus (at the time). They do make a 1/18 Ruckus, I haven't seen it in person or heard anything about it but ECX seems to be a good brand....just missing the aftermarket support. In the end though, they're a good beginner brand and are backed by Horizon Hobby.

ECX is Horizon Hobbies' low end house brand and they support pretty well. My LHS sells a lot of them and they seem to do okay out in the wild.

We sold a lot at the shop I worked at, only had issues when they first started. They were Electrix RC and they had issues with their radio gear every now and then but we NEVER had any issues getting HH to fix the problem.

What about this HPI mini Recon?

Oh, I forgot, that it would be better if it also has reverse and can run thru a moderately thick lawn.

If I remember correctly, the Recon had diff issues. I don't remember seeing too much about it but I'm pretty sure I remember people having issues with the diffs. All of these electric rigs will have reverse, reverse gets turned off for racing.

You are correct Schrode, the Recon has some durability issues.

If he catches it, he's free to do what he wants. I could care less if he humps the tires off

What a strange request. Most guys get upset when their dog messes with their cars.
When you're on the Tower Hobby web site, see if they have chew toys listed in the RC pages. :hehe:
If he stays away from your cars now, you should say, "Good boy."
Once he's encouraged to chase one, he'll chase them all and it will be difficult to un-learn that habit.

SuperShafty has dog chew toys, I bought on, I gave it to my baby niece.....well I didn't give it her willingly, she cried so much it I had too.
