what do you think of XL 5.9 GT

I dont have 1 myself but in reading what everyone else says about it they usually recommend the X 4.6 over the 5.9 due to reliability issues with the 5.9 powerplant. Alot of guys say its a nightmare to hold a consistent tune.

I have both the X and the XL. I love the XL for its size and all the cool trick parts that come on it out of the box. I agree with Phins Fan though on the 5.9 engine. Other than that the XL is a really good tough and durable platform and i really love the three speed. The X is just as good and just as much fun but only has a 2 speed transmission. Which can be upgraded to a three speed with relative ease. I like the extra length of the XL because it's a bit less squirrley than the shorter model. But that is just my personal preference. You can't go wrong with either one they are both great trucks.

I was hearing things about the 5.9 as well ,I was thinking if I got that truck I would sell the 5.9 and put in a LRP 30 or the LRP 32 ,what do you think would that be a good combo , I feel the same way about the truck ,I like the size I need to look more in to the lay out of the truck now that you talk of trick parts,I wonder if I can buy it new as a roller with no motor LOL

Going with a LRP in that truck is a solid start! You may need to look at upgrading the rest of the drivetrain as well (axles, tranny, etc...) as the LRP's put out a ton of RPM's not to mention a TON of power

If you install the lrp you should not have to upgrade much because of the bullet proof diffs and the beefier driveline. A defenite concern is the the plastic gear inside the tranny but replace it when it goes. Personally I would drive the 5.9 to the ground and also seal it. I've had mine so far one season and it's been pretty good to me. It does hold a tune and also is plenty of power. The roto start is nice but it does have a tendency to toast your one way bearing and if you use a fuel with alot of oil, the roto start can slip. It's only on the 5.9 that the roto start slips due to the engine design because the 4.6 in the x does not slip. I have ditched the roto start in favor of a pull start and I have yet to use the pull start.

Thanks for the info and tips, when I get the truck mit be a while , Ill go ahead and run the 5.9 and I save up and do up the LRP good with Buku brass komposite clutch kit with a heavy duty HPI vented clutch bell and may be look in to RR tranny gears , what I'm hoping to do is to build up a super basher this truck should be the way to go , Thanks again

The stock clutchbell is vented and if I'm not mistaken, its hardened steel as well.

Yep it is vented and hardened but I don't run the steel spur gear that came with the truck. I use a plastic one and the older Savage X double slipper clutch with the rubber drive cushion built into it.

Thanks again , from what I've been reading HPI has one of the best clutch bells out there

Thanks for the great tip I like the idea of the plastic spur gear , for a little give and may be save the tranny if somthing were to happin from the extra power

would like your in put

Do you think a 2010 XL 5.9 with Trencher Tires Mounted on Tech 5 Black Wheels and starter is a good deal for 290 ,its a buddy's of mine he said he ran it less then ten times and broke it in useing HPI break in guide.

what is a good pipe for the LPR 30 and the LRP32 ,don't no what engine and pipe to get yet but price may help me to pick LOL , oh one more thing may sound dome , is it true that 25% or 30% nitro will run cooler then a lower % of nitro like 15% or 20%
Thanks for your in put

If you have seen it run and know the guy pretty well I would say go for it. I'm not sure about your second question I run 20% nitro with 14% oil. It makes sense that the higher nitro content would run cooler but I have always run the 20%. The stock 5.9 pipe should be fine for an LRP .30 or .32.

Thanks for the tip on the pipe that will save me some $ , I'll go ahead and get the truck , I think it will be a good start for my build

The higher nitro % will typically run hotter and a less % nitro will run cooler. Everyone has thier own opinions but I prefer 20% Odonells and can consistently keep steady tunes with my trucks but than again your temp is typically relative to your tune. Too lean= to hot and to rich may = to cold

Thanks Phins Fans Thats what I was thinking , I was reading A guy said the less oil in the nitro the cooler it will run 12%oil instead of 16% and he said the higher % of the nitro the cooler it will run .
I run Odonells 20% in my picco .26 JL red dot and Byron Gen2 20% in my
MGT 8.0 my LHS only has the Byron $31.00 a gal

Do you know the part number having no luck finding it , Thanks

Ok here are the part numbers for the whole double slipper clutch assembely. Slipper clutch plate A-86801, slipper clutch plate B-86802, rubber damper-87243, slipper clutch hub-86800, and the spur gear is a 49 tooth part no. 77094.
