It hadn't occured to me till now but, when I start my motor up, using a ez start wand, I usually have to give it half throttle to get it to start up for the first time in the day and let it do some laps before it will sit and idle. Is this normal?

I wouldn't say I have to start at half throttle, but I do open it up a bit when starting. Hot or cold. I rarely don't apply throttle when trying to start.

I've seen many new guys pull and pull and pull without picking up their radio and applying throttle while pulling. Or people running their e-starts dead doing the same thing. I've even see some "pump" the throttle thinking it's like a 1:1 old school car with a carb that has an auxiliary pump in it.

Prime it, open the throttle a bit either with radio trim or your finger, start it and hold it open a bit so it can clear it's throat. They normally don't idle well until warmed up, so you have to keep it moving for a bit until the engine gets saturated with heat some.

Mine will start right up at idle, but I have to idle it with the glow ignitor on then 'burp' the throttle a few times until it will stay running good.

radio check

put ignitor on the plug

finger over stinger and pull 3 or 4 times until the truck "hits"

finger off the stinger, touch of throttle, and pull it again. fires right up. putt around or hold it up and rev a little until it clears out good, then remove the ignitor.

let her rip!
