  1. Bashing
I have a Savage X with an LRP Z.28 spec 3 engine on it. I want to finally change the diff oil but I don't know what weights to use. What is the best all around set up for bashing. Also, were is the center diff? I tried looking through the manual but couldn't find it.
Thanks

can't help you about the oil weight, but there is no stock or aftermarket center diff available for the savage

So I don't have to worry about a center diff then?

Okay, thank for clearing that up

Any ideas on what weight I should use?

I think I'm running 7000wt for front and back. Never tried anything else and it seems to be good. I'm only bashing. Alot better than what it comes with stock. I'm also running the lrp z.28r Spec3. Just breaking it in now, got about 10 tanks through it.

did some fast research and it sounds like 5k to 30k is good for racing and 50k is the lightest you would want to go for bashing. many dudes ran 100k to 120k with good results but keep in mind, the thicker it is the larger the turning radius will be. are you gonna be bashing in a big area at high speeds or a smaller area with more sharp turns. use thicker if you're in a larger-med size area and lighter if you're in a smaller area. also use thicker if you're gonna be on asphalt often. peace

I'll be running in both scenarios, large area and small, but I rather have a good turning radius. Maybe I'll put thicker oil in the back, and thinner in the front? Would that work, if so what weights would be good?
Thanks for the help

I was looking around, would maybe something like 50k in the front and 100k in the rear work? Or should I increase or decrease?

I would just put 100k in both front and back. I personally don't have any hands on experience with that setup but I do have it in my modified TMaxx, although I havn't driven it yet.

ya 100 looks like a good weight. the thing is, with the heavier oil you can just slam the brakes and then slam the gas to break the tires loose and powerslide to turn

I'm not sure exactly where I got the idea to fill my Maxx diffs (aftermarket) with 100k but I'm pretty sure I researched it here on the forum and came to the conclusion that 100k would be a decent all around weight. It does feel about normal when I spin the tires though. It doesn't spool too easily even with 40 series wheels/tires.

50K OFNA is plenty in the savage. I run that in both my aftershock and savage and really like it. Might actually like it a bit lighter, but 50K is all I have on hand, so I stick with it.

I think if you go with much higher than 50K, it will be really squirrelly in the dirt if you run in dirt. I lost some straight line/cornering control in the dirt when I went from grease to 50K. But since I usually run in grass and on pavement, it was relatively mute.

The 50K gives you enough power transfer to not got high centered as easy on things. But not so much of a locking effect that you snap axles or anything all day long.

I was thinking about using 50k or 70k, but my LHS only had 10k, so I got that for now. Ill order 50k sometime soon. Now that I changed the oil I can really see what effects it has.
Thanks for the help!
