What are you guys running in the 3.3 for glow plugs and where are you getting them? I did a search on what type I should be getting but didn't find any real reasons to get one plug over another. Seemed like it was a lot of "I like the XXX" or "You should run XXX" but no break down on the difference in the plugs and when or why you should run one plug over another.

Is $7 bucks as ridiculous as I think it is for a plug? That's what the local hobby shop is pulling for them. I grabbed one the other day when I picked up some fuel and a couple little things I needed to get up and running.

I've been playing around with the tuning on this trying to reacquaint my self with these nitro engines again... I have come to two conclusions 1) I need more glow plugs and 2) I'm tossing the easy start and going to use a different method (I'll start another thread about that, lol).

If you are constantly killing plugs then I would say your rig is way out of tune. If you can't get the thing to fire up using the ezstart there are 2 reasons for that.. 1, out of tune. 2, another fouled plug because you are out of tune.

Well... I would say I'm constantly killing plugs, I'm only 2 down... But I think I was running lean last night. Odd because I put the carb back to factory setting to start over from what the previous owner had set it at (assuming factory is rich), then I leaned the high speed a 1/4 turn because we had some bogging.

It did fire up with the ez start (when it was firing up) pretty quick. I just don't like the wire and spring design. The one that's on there one is all chaffed and beat up.

I swung by the hobby shop this afternoon and grabbed a new plug wire, and a 3232X plug. He had a 3232 and another plug but all I can remember was, it was a hot plug so I didn't get it. The guy behind the counter (owner) couldn't give me an answer when I asked him what the difference on plugs were. He started babbling about how much research he has done and how I needed to do the same to try and figure it out... Apparently there is no difference between the 3232 and the 3232X according to him. I took the X because anything with an X after it must be better, lol (plus they were the same price)...

Long story short... I have a new plug wire and a 3232X sitting on the bench waiting to go in. Wish me luck, lol.

P.S.
Still looking for some help on those questions... I just bought this plug because I don't know any better..

I know there's a difference but to explain what it is I'm not really sure. I usually just by the traxxas plugs though. They seem to work just fine for me. I guess I forgot to put that in my reply

These are Traxxas plugs... What do you pay for yours? Is $7 bucks each reasonable?

I'm sure I can find them on eBay cheaper but to have them instock and down the street is nice... I figure once this guy gets to know me and sees I'm turning into or have the ability to be a "regular" customer, I'll start working on him about prices. I did spend some time studying hes price tags on parts and he is about 10-20% higher than I've seen online (mainly eBay).

plugs

i buy them on ebay 5 or 10 at a time for about 4.50
but i have 3 jatos 1 smaxx and 6 tmaxx's and i maybe use 1 a year in each

McCoy mc 59, OS lc3, lc4, Odonnel red-top, purple top, or #77 to name a few. READ THIS http://www.fubarhill.com/GLOW.htm

Good read!! Thank you... Am I understanding it correctly that the less Nitro content the hotter plug I should run or did I read that wrong?

From what I remember from the last time I ran these nitro cars the lower the nitro content, the easier on the engines it was, i.e running 20% would make an engine last longer than say running 30%... If that is correct and I am running 20% (which I am now) should I be running a hot plug? Or should I be running a higher nitro content with the medium plug? I'm not afraid of running a higher content of nitro if I can tune correctly and the engine will last as long. At this point I'm a "basher" but I'm once I'm comfortable with the controller wouldn't mind doing some track time (as a hobbyist of course)..

20% is just fine. 30% is a little faster, but not much. Your tuning 'window' gets smaller with 30%, the engine will be slightly harder to tune and needs to be richened a bit. If you read that link again (or recall), you'll see they talk about methanol % getting lower when the nitro gets higher. The amount of platinum on the plug filament and methanol in fuel plays a role too. It can be a bit confusing but a good rule of thumb is med/hot or hot for 20% nitro, med for 30%. Also if it's 50 degrees f or lower, I recommend and use a medium plug all the time.

Ahhhh... I read methanol as nitro, (Courtesy of Sam Adams)... So I should be running a hot plug for 20%... Glad the owner of the hobby shop is up to par on his recommendations for his customers, lol...

Am I going to toast anything if I run this med plug with the 20% fuel I have? I would rather run 20% leave the tuning window wide for my bashing tendencies and weak dreams of being a national race champion...

I really do appreciate the help guys!

A medium plug will work fine. You may notice a lil better top end with them, but you'll have a rougher idle.

Thank you sir... I'll run this plug till I undoubtedly foul it and I'll try out a hot plug next go at it.
