I want to do some big air when I get my Savage, and I don't know how well the stockers are going to handle it. The owner at my lhs is pimping out Integy shocks, swearing that he's never heard of a bad Integy part. I'm not saying Integy is junk, I've never used any of their products to base an opinion on, though I have heard some bad, some good about it.

I see alot of LST big bore shocks, but I like the look of the dual shocks. What do you recommend?

I still use the stockers, they're cheap but I don't need to fix them very often. I like the big air jumps too. The biggest part of the equation is your driving skills and how well you can control the landing.

The big LST shocks look interesting and I have a set that was going to try but never have. Of course I'd sell them if somebody else wants to give it a try :D

Stock shocks work well unless you land funny and then they bend.
It looks like HPI uses a softer steel for their stock shock shafts, however I still use them as they are inexpensive to fix and they do an adequate job.

I have a set of Integy piggyback shocks which I've never used - couldn't get one shock to not leak, so I gave up on them.
FYI - I will say that the Integy shock towers that I had did bend easily.

I have a set of Losi shocks on an XL and while I haven't hit big air with them, they do handle nice.

i have a set of integy piggy backs, and they are alright for a few months, i then went to look at the big bore shocks, after doing some research i found that they was not a good idea to get, as instead of having 8 shocks you only have 4! this is bad because having the 8 shocks, 2 each side is a good way off evening out the load when you are doing jumps, so stay away from the big bore shocks!! iam running 8 alloy shocks on myne, with upgraded springs, they have not broke on me atall yet and have been doing jumps and even flipped my car 5 times as i was turning too sharply :/

Unless you want bling the stockers are pretty good and cheap to replace!

Stock shocks work well unless you land funny and then they bend.

All shocks bend when you land funny, maybe not every time but they all bend! I have bent pretty much every type of shock I have owned including LST shocks. Shocks with harden shafts break instead of bend.

i typically use electric for shocks.....

or i go to a restaurant and ask for a Hypocrite Burger.....

it's a veggie burger with bacon added.....

seriously though i use the Stock set up... esp on my MGT... they are pretty stout.

I've never ran the lst shocks, but I hear that the Hpi big bores are better. They weight less and they are direct bolt on; you don't need an innovative or new era mount. I've also heard the shock shafts are stronger on the Hpi big bores.

I like the big bores.

SMaxxin - Yeah I realize that all shocks bend/break when you land hard/off kilter. I guess what I was trying to say is that while I still like and use the stock shocks, my only complaint is that I'd like for the shafts to be a bit more stout because they seem to bend a lot easier than shafts on other shocks. For as long as they are I'm surprised that they're that thin (2.9mm in diameter).

LST's - I bought a Savage off of eBay that already had the LST shocks mounted on it. I then converted to an XL just to have something different than what I already had.

Thanks for the tips guys. Looks like I'm going to pick up a set of LST shocks to try. If anything, they'll serve as a spare set at least.

I've been running stockers with black springs, 40 weight oil and a fair amount of spacers. When I run it at the skatepark, I clear 6 feet of air under it jump after jump. I have yet to blow out or bend a shock on that truck in the 1+ year I've had it. That includes hard winter bashing.

A buddy of mine runs LST shocks and it does land really nice, however, he's constantly bending the lower mounts. I can't recall if he ever made any out of steel or not. I know he's at least used 4mm aluminum, but it bent pretty easily.

The HPI big bore shocks suck. I bought a set and broke 2 already at the skatepark. My stock shocks worked just as good and I have yet to break one. I just bought the big bores because they looked tough as nails...they are garbage, waste of $100. I'm putting my stockies back on and keeping them on.

here's my .02....keep the stockers. they are a quick/cheap fix should you bend a shaft or blow out a cap. i've only run stockers on my savage and its roughly 4-5 yrs old. in that time i've only replaced 2 shocks. one was a bent shaft from a very bad landing and the 2nd was from driver error when i clipped a curb.

keep the stockers, you'll save money and be just as happy.

Wow, I thought this thread was dead.

Yea, I'm sticking with the stock shocks, cheap to replace.

Stockers all the way! I am still running the original stockers on my Savage SS, that are over 8 years old now, and I have never had a single problem with them.

I have bent around 4-5 stock shock shafts and blew off two caps. With the LST shocks installed...no bent shafts but several bent lower mounts and destroyed a shock tower. All were damaged and done doing stupid stuff.

my big bores are fine what are you doing to break them

Well just jumping it the way I did with the stock shocks. Jumping at the skatepark getting big air and landing on all 4 wheels perfectly, I don't understand why they break on me but the stock ones never have and the truck is old. Thats my experience.
