what about this engine?

i was lookin to get the xtm .18 engine, pull start, OS shaft, R??
is it a good engine? durable, etc?


new to this hobby so someone please help!!!!!!

just - i would say pass on that engine - if u are new to the hobby, i would recommend nothing other than an OS brand engine. not only are they incredibly fast, but they are extrememly durable and very easy to tune.

in a rustler you can do a lot of things ...

an OS 15 or fantom 15 will be a good power upgrade but not so powerfull that you start breaking parts.

the trinity sirio 18 will be a great upgrade, but will eat up tires and sometimes break things due to its big power. Fantom has an 18 comming out really soon. and i think os also has one.

any of these engines will be good. and they are all reliable and easy to tune. The trinity sirio 18 is also EZ start ready , so if you wanted to add an ez start to your rustler you could do it very easily. But i still recomend the fantom first , then an OS and then the sirio . just because the sirio is such a high end motor. the fantom and OS seem to take more abuse from errors in tuning.

(I'm partial to fantoms because i use them and love it)

I would second NA's advice. In a rusty, you could go with an O.S. CV-X (the x denotes a pull start) or if you want faster(also more money) go with the CV-RX.

There will be some who will encourage you to put a traxxas 2.5 engine in it, but I am not so sure that is the best mill for a beginner. They can be very finicky. They are very fast, but I don't know if the benefit would be worth the extra headache that they can cause a newbie.

The sirio is waaaaay too much engine for a ruslter. Stick with an O.S. or perhaps the fantom

Nitro dave you are right, a sirio is way to powerfull. i was just tryin to give ideas of what works ... my friend has one in his rustler and it is amazing. but rips up tires in about 2 tanks... hes sellin it for 315 bucks. I'm thinkin of getting it.

just4fun - NEVER EVER EVER buy a used engine. you are opening up a huge can o worms. buy new - always, forever.

is it the 2.5 model, or the original .15? if its a 2.5 - check out the OS .12TR

I wouldn't. That is a cheap engine that is not well made. Look around and see how many guys run an OS or fantom. There is a reason for that.....quality. Now check around and see how many dudes run the xtm. A good quality engine that will hold a tune, be sealed properly will only enhance your fun and shorten the learning curve of nitro, and believe me there is a learning curve. You are asking for headaches and trouble if you go with poorly constructed engine. That is my .02 worth, ultimately the decision will be yours.
