What a nice paperweight! Maverick Ion XT 1/18 Truggy

I picked up a SCX10 Pro and a few other things from Amain Hobbies on Black Friday. My order came with a free 1/18 Maverick Ion XT Truggy, so I figured what the heck, might be fun. Connected the batteries and hit the throttle... the rear wheels spun and the front gearbox just clicked. Straight outta the box the driveshaft was broken in half No wonder why these were free!

Looks like a Lego Technic shaft, but worse.

If this wasn't free I never would have got it. I would have paid $70 more and got an Arrma Typhon Grom.

Couldn't if I wanted to. Every spare part is out of stock anyways. I'm just going to shoot amain an email and see what happens. Honestly, I was going to give this to a friend. I'm just glad I checked it out first!

I emailed Amain, and I'm sure they will take care of it. They will either send me a new truggy or a new driveshaft. From the looks of it, the driveshaft does not look easy to replace. A lot has to come apart to get to it.

I stand corrected. They do have parts, they are just out of stock "in store". They sell upgraded dogbones, diff cases, center driveshaft, but this rig is honestly not worth upgrading anything. I'll just get the driveshaft taken care of, give the whole thing to my friend, and keep driving my Mojave Grom because it is awesome!

These look like rebranded Himoto E18's. They used to be sold under the iron track brand and several other brands years ago. Should be able to find parts for these everywhere if the "vehicle specific" ones are out of stock. Id try aliexpress, amazon, eBay or Asiatees. These were actually surprisingly durable back in the day, could've been a fluke and you may be surprised once you get a new driveshaft in there.

That was short lived. I plugged it in, hit the throttle, and nothing happened. Then the wheels started spinning for a few seconds, then the steering servo freaked out and the ESC shut off. It will only drive in reverse Ima charge the battery to see if it just goes crazy on low battery... if it's doesn't work I'm either going to throw it in the trash or give it away for parts.

The Maverick lives! Its just finicky and likes a charged battery. Charged it up and it works just fine. Pretty zippy for what it is.

Where are you running it?
With a free r/c, for me at least, I'd expect your 1st experience! This is a nice turn of events! Congrats!

I just drove around the house for a bit. It is very light, so that should help with durability. It looks like it will be fun in some dirt or in a parking lot. My intention the whole time was to give it to a buddy of mine. That's why I was bummed to find it broken right out of the box. I'm just glad I checked it out before giving it to him.

Just be sure the "test drive" doesn't turn into a 3 year lease!
