Well, I just got power back in my house today and the computer up and going tonight. It has been one hell of a week. It all began Tuesday morning when violent storms ripped through downtown Memphis and pushed it's way through midtown and the suburbs. In less than a 30 minute span, straightline winds recorded at 90mph did approx. $39 million dollars worth of damage to the city. Tuesday evening there were 305,000 homes and businesses in the metro area without power. The storm has accounted for 5 deaths that I know of. Thousands of trees have been snapped and uprooted, many laying on top of peoples homes. Smashed cars, snapped light poles, fast food signs lying on the ground, broken windows, etc. are a common sight in many areas. The streets were covered in debris. It is amazing to see the damage that high winds can do.
Let me tell you, living without electricity is horrible. It gets pretty boring when you can't use the computer, watch the TV, cook, use the phone, take a hot shower, turn on the air condition, and hundreds of other things I take for granted every day. I can't complain too much though, my family is safe, and my house is intact. Minus a couple of trees, we came out of all of this in real good shape.
On the bright side, the power did come on just in time for me to charge up my batteries for some racing tomorrow
Hopefully they will be able to get the power back to everyone soon. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 90's this weekend and I'm sure it will be humid as hell like usual for this area this time of year. That's about enough for now, time to get ready for bed so I can get some good sleep for the first time in 4 nights.
