What .18 wil fit my Maxx?

Definately, fits both the .15 and 2.5 T-Maxx. I have one and love it, gearing is a tad low for it though (20/72) and might go with a 22T clutchbell. A Sirio .18 is also a good engine but quite a bit more expensive.

Only thing needed is a dremel to cut the crankshaft 12-13mm, which can be a pain if you're not good with the dremel (I did mine 14mm by accident and it didn't lock the flywheel when putting on the clutch nut so I had to cut again).

Whats the price of them? Do they come with a recoil starter? Where can I get one? Will the Maxx drivetrain hold up?

$99-109 for the XTM .18, $199 for the Sirio .18 and I think the Sirio has pullstart avail. But I suggest if you do get an XTM, get an HPI elec. starter kit ($55 or less on ebay), it'll save you from blisters.

is this a first generation maxx or a 2.5? if it is the first generation maxx, you will need a conversion kit to use a rear exhaust slide carb engine.

You'll need the XTM kit for BOTH the original and 2.5 T-Maxx for the XTM .18, it includes the header, pipe, instructions on cutting the crankshaft to fit the clutchnut on, etc. I forgot to mention that.

And yes, it's a bolt on, it fits easily, no mods required.

It is thenew MAxx 2.5. The older max was also a 2.5 was it not? .15 ci = 2.5cc.

technically you are correct that the old maxx was a "2.5" The engine was called a pro.15. The new engine is called a 2.5. Traxxas said they did this to distinguish between the two engines, but all it really did was cause confusion. A lot of people thought the new maxx was a .25ci engine. Anyway that doesn't matter. On to your question:

Don't mess with the XTM, it will be worse than the current 2.5 you already have, The absolute best .18 engine availble that is a direct fit for the new Maxx's is the Sirio .18. This engine will give you balls out power and should run much cooler. It will work with your existing EZ Start system. This is the one I am talking about sirio 3.0 maxx engine

BTW- I heard fantom is also coming out with a .18ci (3.0cc) direct fit engine too, but I don't know when that will be availble
