  1. Bashing
I got sick and tired of trying to get my 2.5R to run right. I went out today, which was a perfect weather day, 60 degrees, sunny, light breeze... I was out trying to bash my revo for over an hour and just couldn't get it running right. This has been happening a lot lately and I don't know why.

No matter how I tune it, it always sounds lean and has power like it's lean. But, it only does it spuratically. It also only runs well spuratically. At first when I got the revo (used), it was winter time, so temps were normally below 40F. It seemed to run ok then.

As it is now, my temps read anywhere from 220-250 and it acts like it's either way rich or way lean. Usually way lean. Even though I get a smoke cloud coming out of it all the time...

So, beings I've been working 60-70 hours a week, I want my "play" time to be just that, PLAY! Not tinker, get annoyed, flame out, get annoyed, run rich, get annoyed... I've tried 4 different kinds of plugs, different line configs, sealed the carb/backplate, checked fuel tank for leaks... still sucks.

Anyway, after 40 excrusiating minutes of trying to get it to run right, I called and drove 50 miles to my LHS... They had an OS 18 TM revo edition in stock. Hurried there, hurried back, installed it, got about 3 tanks through break-in. Just in break-in, it's running very consistant (like most OS engines), relatively cool, around 210 and has a ton of power already. A light touch on the throttle pulls a wheelie. I have a feeling I'll be much happier with this engine this summer.

Anyone know the life expentency of the P/S? Anything I should keep an eye on?

Here's some pics:

Oh yeah... while I was being annoyed at the 2.5R today, I busted another RPM arm... then I went home because I know I was taking my aggresion out on the rest of the truck, not the engine:

With my luck, I would have waited for the 3.3 to come in and would have the same problems with it...

You'll love that mill, man! The only thing I had with mine is it seemed to like to run hot until I got about six or so tanks past break-in. It would spike to 280 or so, but still run strong until I richened it too much. Otherwise, the mill has been terrific!

I'd say I'm just over a total gallon through it and it still runs like a beast with excellent compression.

Yeah... I had to dig deep into my pocket for it. It's the most expensive engine I've bought in the 5 years I've been doing this.

I'm just hoping I get a consistent tune, long life and the extra power will be a bonus.

I have the TM and love the thing. The only thing i have heard about them is the slop in the con rod allowing it to move on the wrist pin causing wear but that was mostly on bump start models. Just for the extra insurance i got the spacer from RDracing. Might want to check into it but i might just be paranoid. Seriously though they are a very strong powerfull reliable mill.

Aman brother :hi:

I did the same thing. I've had an OS.18TM sitting here for a while because I was to lazy to order the stuff needed or wanted to install it with. So yesterday the Revo started this flame out for no reason crap again. I got mad and yanked the motor off the Revo. Then I sat down and ordered my gaskets and a Werks clutch. Now it's not a TZ but it sure in hell has to be better than the 2.5r :hammer:

Well... I got a couple more tanks through it tonight. I'm up to tank for and I've heat cycled it about 15 times (run up to 210, kill it, put piston at BDC and wait for it to cool down). I haven't really started leaning it yet though. I had to wrap the head in a paper towel to get the temps up to 200 or so. It runs really rich on the HSN side currently, but it starts right up and idles like a dream.

Today it was about 65 and with it rich, blocking the head was necessary.

I may still try to fix the 2.5. I think my front main bearing is what was causing my apparent air leak. When I ripped off the clutch setup last night in a hurry for the TM, I noticed a significant amount of wobble on the crank shaft. You could see the inner race of the front main bearing move up and down... I might just get a set of boca green seals so I have a backup.

Rich as it is, I started rolling slowly up to WOT runs tonight... with the truck rolling pretty good, just gently applying throttle brings the front up. I did a quick jab to clear the exhaust (loading up) and it flipped on it's lid... my first road rash on my $200 engine :(.
