The LD3 I just bought runs great but I noticed something I thought was weird.

The car runs great once started...BUT I either have to prime the hell out of it or put one eye dropper drop of nitro directly into the cumbustion chamber, put the glow plug back in, then starts right up. If not....only way to get it started is by using a starter box. This has been confirmed by my LHS and some local guys that I've been bashing with lately....

Once running it will not die as long as it has fuel no matter how long I leave it idle...no matter how long I run it WOT (doing flybys) even after I ran onto some grass and it flipped...the engine did not die.

I can deal with the priming issue...but what bugs me is that if I purposefully shut it down once up to temp (either by plugging the exhaust pipe or putting a finger on the flywheel) I cannot get it started again. I've tried on different occassions re- priming, changing HSN settings, changing LSN settings, starter box, new glow plug, freshly charged c-cell glow ignighter...nothing works....

The only way to restart is to wait until it cools then I have to prime the hell out of it again.

I thought that maybe I'm just running tooooo hot but no matter what...with the stratus body on...it never gets above 250 unles the outside temp is over 80 degrees F.

Anyone ever have this problem? Or can shed some light on what may be going on?

Well, first of all, doesn't it hurt to hold the spinning flywheel? But, You could be priming it wrong. Hold finger over exhaust and pull starter cord till fuel reaches carb, then pull a couple of times. Thats a strange Problem but, thats all the info I can give you.

silent gave u a great way to prime the engine. it works everytime. I did notice something that u said though. NEVER, NEVER stop an engine by plugging the exhaust! That could be your problem right there. Doing this will cuase the engine to flood almost immediately. It will also cause you to bend conrods almost immediately due to the fact that it floods so badly the engine cannot compress it all. By stopping the engine this way you are flooding it severly and that could have damaged the piston/sleeve. Once this occurs, it will not start when it is hot, as there would be excessive blow by untill the engine cools and contracts. Putting a drop of fuel in the combustion chamber may get it to start, but only because you are forcing a combustion cycle. Check the compression ehn the engine is hot, and see if it is really easy to pull the starter cord. And always stop the engine by pinching the fuel line.

If you dont want to put your finger on the hot carb.. you can just take a fuel bottle and just pour some gas into the carb that way... thats what I do and I think its alot easier.

I stop the engine with my finger, it will not hurt, you need to press it hard so it don't spin on your finger rubbing your skin or anything. It can be hot, but it's a quick touch. You can use your shoe to stop it by the flywheel, it's better than pluging the exhaust or pinching the line. Did you break in this engine properly? Usually it don't require the engine to cool down all the way during some situation, you can start it after the engine cool till you can touch the head safely. 250 might be hot for that engine, try keeping it around 230-240. Sometime you might need to blip the throttle while trying to start it.

I heard pinching the fuel line was the best way of stopping an engine. It stops fuel from flooding the carb, so the next time you wanna start it, it will be ready for primage, not floodage.

I just put my finger over the exhaust...works fine for me and that engine will start up next time no problem....that's the way my friend taught me to kill it...
