Water Cooled Head

They have watercooled heads on nitro boats. But it's not really worth it on a car cuz the system won't work the same. You'd have to have a resovoir and the water would eventually heat up and you'd risk frying your engine.

On top of that, you'd just add a whole shitload of weight to the car

I AM RUNNING A XTM 24.7 AND I AM TRYING TO KEEP IT COOL. HOW ABOUT A ELECTRIC FAN

Wow plz dont post in all caps..A fan may help keep your engine a few degrees cooler.

Well generally, we regulate the temperature of the engine by changing the air/fuel ratio.

If you want to lower your temperatures, you can also get an aftermarket cooling head. The good ones could drop the temp. a good 20-25 degrees...which is HUGE!

Sorry, I'm a new guy. No more caps!! Any ideas how to run the fan?

I am running jumbo kong tires and it ran alot hotter. I re-geared to make the engine not run so hard and it still runs a little warm, even with the mixture adjustments. What is a good head to run on a xtm 24.7?

you could possibly get on that runs off of a normal 9v battery.Maybe a small fan from a PC of some sort.

A couple of the new Tamiya products have electric fans on them stock. You could probably look at those for ideas. Try doing a search on RCCA for the tamiya TNX

I seriously wouldn't recommend the fan, it's pointless and ricey. Just regulate the temps with the HSN and get an aftermarket cooling head if you're worried.

Do you have a temp gun? If so, what's the engine's temp running at?

Also the truck is heavy! No plastic. It is all aluminum & titanium. Is the weight killing me?

Truck runs at about 240. Is that too hot?

I will try to find a better cooling head. Thank you

I agree with kwong. 240 isn't a bad temp to be at. Anything from 210-255 is probably as good as your going to get.

Why the jumbo kongs? You could maybe try a set of 40 series from proline. The weight is pretty light on those, depending on the tires you use.

I run an OS 21 RG-X(P) on my maxx and i try to keep it in the 210-245 range. I'm on gallon #3 and still running strong.

My two cents,

Well, Computer Heatsinks and "COOLING heads" on nitro engines are the same thing with the same principal but the applications are vasatly different in many ways. Now-a-days you have to have "active cooling" on a computer heatsink as processors are running @ mind blowing speeds generating tons of heat compared to five years ago. Copper conducts heat better then most any metal but the problem with copper is that it's heavy and it doesn't disipate heat as well as other metals. THe answer for pc's is a well designed copper heatsink with a fan to help disipate the heat......ACTIVE COOLING ='s a heat sink and a fan.

A well designed copper heatsink with a fan would kick ass for elminating heat from a NItro engine but it's to heavy for a RC application as violent rolls are often a reality of this hobby and it could shear off the engine block and especially with a big ass fan on top.

To the Subject of water cooling and possible RC applications. Well, I use to be a hardcore "case mod'r" with two cases featured in MaximumPC back in the day. I have plenty of experience on the subject of water cooling.

Kwong makes a great point. RC Cars and Truck and RC boats are two completely different animals. To water cool a nitro engine properly you'd have to have a resevoir, pump and water lines all over the place and various other crap that could become disconnected and cause a leak with engine temps skyrocketing in a matter of moments. Not to mention that you'd be adding allot of weight to the car/truck. You wouldn't have to worry about the heatsink being bumped or knocked off the engine as you'd only need a small plate made of copper of other comporable metal. THe heatsink wouldn't even be visible with a body on.

Water cooling has no place whatsoever in this hobby as of now. It could be a relality in the near future though. ANyone that develops a proper Water cooling sytem for NItro engines gets my big phat KUDDOS but it's not a reality for real world use.

Peace

All the alum may be getting your engine over-working two forty isn't a serious temp. Depends on the engine, I don't kno about the xtm but the traxxas TRX pro can run about 310 and not hurt anything, it's a pretty bulletproof little engine.:flamer: I would get an aftermaket head on it if your worried. How long do u run it for when it gets to two forty?

FYI - They do make a Marine head for the Trx 2.5 for boat applications. THeir is plenty of good application with boats already but boats & Cars/Trucks are different animals.

Peace

A belt drivin pump would be best.... but I think it's pointless. Your truck will be slower from all the weight. Not to mention your temps could be fine but you could still be running lean. I mean there is a reason no manufactuer makes a water cooled monster truck/car. But hey... you never know, they could come up with something worthwile, I just think it's a ways off.

if you are looking for a cooling head ... i know King Headz makes a really good one. its kinda pricey, but worth it.
