the Wasp .18 engine is a great engine as far as power, and the powerband. but as far as its componets, not so much. ever since i got the engine, i have had problems with the pull start, u know the ways that appear then disappear. well today the pull start went. *PIX ATTACHED*. If u look at the pic, u see that the spring is wound like normal, then there is a bend and the spring starts to wind the other way. Once u get the engine tuned, it has good power, and doesn't got too hot. But another thing is, i put 8-10 tanks thru it in Florida, hardcore bashing. Get back up here in NY, piston and sleeve is shot so i send it to OSRocket, get a piston and sleeve that has better compression then when i first bought the engine. So I am in the process of rebreaking the engine in, 5 tank, then the pull start goes. so today hasent been the best day. I would not really recommend this engine, unless u get it in a non pull start version and use a starter box. U get what u paid for $90.

I don't know if your pointing out that it's a crappy design, or if you don't know why it's bent one way, then the other...

Mine broke off right at the curl part in the center after about a quart (break in). I heated up about 1 inch with a torch to red hot then let it cool to room temp on it's own (to remove the temper), reshaped to kind of like original shape, put it back together. Works as good as new...

I've run about a gallon through mine since I broke it, and that was a lot of pulling. I think they made the pull start cord about 6 inches too long. Just keep that in mind when starting it.

I still think the way they keep the wrist pin in the piston is kind of hokey... but she still runs good.

i think the spring is fiddlesticked up. isnt it suppose to all go in one direction?

short quick tugs.. always.. lol

I don't think so. I think it's designed that way as a catch. Instead of putting a hard right angle in it, they did a reverse soft semi-circle to sit in the center pocket.

.... short quick tugs .... story of my life ;)

i think i might have confused u as to what I'm talking about. in like the middle of the spring, it bends, and coils in the opposite direction, then u got that loop thing where it attachs to the spool.
