Ok, so its mandatory to spend at least part of my income tax on my "toys".

I have a bone stock TC4 that is decent in the speed department, but i want to go brushless for that jaw dropping pop.

I have looked around on tower, and i see Associated makes there own brushless setup for a TC but it doesn't come with reverse.

I dont race it, just run around my street or the empty parking lot down the street, so no groomed track. i want something rugged, and that will last awhile.

I looked at the traxxas systems, and they seem like the most "plug and play". But I'm not up on these systems, so i dont know which is better.

my budget is around the $150-175 area, as i will eventually pick up a lipo to go with it.

DOM!!! i need you! :D

what kind of top speed would i see with the 4600k? i also see a 5700k and its cheaper. what is the difference?

The difference is with a 4600Kv you can run a 3 cell lipo on the SW ESC and with the 5700Kv you can only run a 2 cell lipo,

4600 X 11.1V = 51060
5700 X 7.4V = 42180

If you step up to the Castle Mamba Max ESC you can run a 3 cell with the 5700kv.

Here is some specs I found on the CC web site

1. Which system do I need?

That depends on how many cells, what vehicle, and what track/expectations?

For 6 cells NiMH:
Touring car (Associated TC4, Losi XXXS)
Short technical track - 4600 with good gearing range, or 5700 geared very small
Medium track - 5700 large gear range, 6700/6900 good gear range, 7700 geared small
Large track (nitros top out on the straight) 6700/6900 geared high, 7700 good gear range
2wd Buggy/Truck (Associated T4, B4, Losi XXXT, Duratrax Evader, Traxxas Stampede) and 4wd buggy (Kyosho Lazer, Losi XXX-4)
Short track - 5700, possibly 6900 geared small
Medium track - 6900, possibly 7700 geared small
Large track (nitro trucks topping out) big gear 6900, 7700

Measured speeds with 6 cell NiMH in a stock geared Associated B4 buggy:
4600: 30mph
5700: 35mph
7700: 45mph

On 2s Lipo:
Touring car (Associated TC4, Losi XXXS)
Short technical track - 4600
Medium track - 5700 large gear range, 6700/6900 geared small
Large track (nitros top out on the straight) 6700/6900 and 7700 should have good gear range

2wd Buggy/Truck (Associated T4, B4, Losi XXXT, Duratrax Evader, Traxxas Stampede) and 4wd buggy (Kyosho Lazer, Losi XXX-4)
Short track - 4600 or 5700
Medium track - 5700 or 6900 geared small
Large track (nitro trucks topping out) big gear 6900, small gear 7700

Measured speeds with 2 cell LiPo in a stock geared Associated B4 buggy:
4600: 30mph
5700: 40mph
7700: 50mph

3s Lipo
NOT FOR USE WITH THE 7700 MOTOR
Touring car (Associated TC4, Losi XXXS)
Short technical track - NA
Medium track - 4600 large gear range, maybe 5700 geared small
LARGE track (nitros top out on the straight) 5700 geared up

2wd Buggy/Truck (Associated T4, B4, Losi XXXT, Duratrax Evader, Traxxas Stampede) and 4wd buggy (Kyosho Lazer, Losi XXX-4)
Short track - 4600
Medium track - 5700 small gear
Large track (nitro trucks topping out) big gear 5700

Measured speeds with 3 cell LiPo pack in a stock geared Associated B4 buggy:
4600: 45mph
5700: 60mph

i will be starting with regular 6cell nimh but want to upgrade to lipo in the future. i wonder what the stock gearing in the tc4 would be considered.

would i get more speed out of 4600 and 3s or 5700 and 2s? there is a big price jump to the mamba max.

You would get more speed out of the 4600 and a 3 cell lipo

4600 X 11.1V = 51060 RPM
5700 X 7.4V = 42180 RPM

isnt there an online tool to see the top speed? i saw one at one time but i dont remember where.

I would go for a sensored setup. I've ran my share of both sensored and sensorless and the slightly higher cost of sensored are well worth it for smoother acceleration and better brakes. You lose a little bit of efficiency but it's worth it for the better performance. All my future systems for cars will be sensored. Unfortunately there is nothing sensored that will fit your budget. If you can be add another 'Binjamin to the mix it will be well worth it.

Here is a speed calculator.

Beason, according to CC you can run the 5700 on 3s. That would be the best bang for the buck imho.

the sidewinder 5700? or the mamba max 5700?

Dom, can you link up some sensored systems i can look at?

DOH! I was looking at just the motor specs.... That's what I get for trying to think without my first cup of coffee this morning.

Here you go Beason The Novak 3.5 Brushless sensored system
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNLY4

The motor is 10500kv but the ESC can only run up to 2 cell lipo but that times the kv equals 77700 rpm so it will be more then fast enough....

That's a great set up for street running. I'll guarantee you can spin the wheels with sticky foam tires on it by punching it at half throttle to full throttle. I have the 5.5 and have not had any problems with it. PLus, you wanted reverse, and it is sensored.

I've not been a big fan of the Castle ESC's. Not had the best luck with them.
