So I stop by the local wally world on the way home to pick up a nook color, as after a lot of research, with a little modding (cyanogen) I think it will fill my tablet needs just fine on the cheap. Well, I get home and open it up only to discover they've put a return right back in the box and right back on the shelf. The previous owners info is still in the device, and I think I'm going to email her (not like I don't have her email address or anything LOL) to let her know just how careful walmart was with her personal information. And people wonder how identity theft happens, geez.

Lol thats crazy. Other than that, you like it? I LOVE mine. Hamz recommended it to me and I'm glad I went with it. I'm reading on it every chance I get, I'm about to finish my second book.

Walmart sucks. And I would be perfectly fine if it disappeared from my community. I remember when they were first moving into the Northeast in the 90's. They billed it as a great place to get affordable American made good.

Now it's a nasty place to get cheap Chinese poop that will break in 2 days. If they even have it in stock. Which they hardly ever do.

The only thing even remotely entertaining is to watch the fallout from society that shops there like it's the greatest store ever made.

I like it pretty good so far. But I really bought it to root and turn into a full android tablet. I got a kindle touch for Xmas for a dedicated e reader. If I had known about this before hand, I probably would have asked for it instead (even though I love my touch). I'm 10 minutes away from finishing up the tablet OS download and booting it up. I'll let you know how it goes, and how hard / easy it is.

+1 on contacting her. She deserves to know that. Total BS.

Yeah, I've thought about it, and I would want someone to tell me is the conclusion I've came to. So I'm going to email her for sure.

Yeah, this is very true candyman. But let's face it, if it wasn't walmart, it would have been some other super corporate chain store that did it. Without going off on a political tangent, we pretty did this to ourselves with the whole instant gratification thing among other issues. At least my generation did.

Please do.

The only problem I had when rooting it was trying to get it back to stock to give it to my mom. They run real well on Cyanogen Mod 7 (Gingerbread 3.2). My brother-in-law has the Nook Color that I rooted and loves it as a tablet.

If i didnt get this iPad2 at the price i did, i would have deffinatly gone with a rooted nook.

Yep, I'll be running CM7 as well. Glad to hear that hamz, good motivation to get it all done tonight.

I hear you alpine. I really wanted an iPad as I do love IOS (not a fanboy at all, it just suits what I want to do with a tablet), but it's just out of my budget right now. Plus, I had some gift cards from Xmas and they just marked them down $50 that made this one even cheaper.

IMO its her fault, she is the idiot that left her personal into on it.

Both parties share responsibility but at the end of the day the retailer is selling something that is supposed to be "new".

I think it's her fault alone that someone else has her personal info, she is responsible for it.

I'm surprised the store resold a used item, Walmart will donate working returns to good will and use it as a tax write off.

I'd bet it was returned as never been used, so it's doubtful anyone even checked it before putting it back on the shelf. I keep hearing about people doing stuff like that. That is one thing I would never do.

I think the responsibility falls on both parties as well, but I suppose in todays age if you don't know any better than to leave your info on there, then you're pretty naive. I had to go back and get another one already, as the one that had been used was already registered to someone the girl that owned it. Finally got everything downloaded (my internet went down for a while so I had to start over) and I'm attempting the CM7 install now.

i kinda wanna buy one now, just to root it. It can sit next to my Jailbroken Ipad 2

Ha ha, like mini me.

Well after a lot of head scratching and reading last night, I found my issue. You HAVE to use a Sandisk card. There are a couple of others that may work, but the Sandisk card took me all of 5 minutes to get it running. I did not root my device, I just boot the OS (CM7 cyanogen mod) from the SD card itself. Take the SD card out, and it's back to a regular nook color. And it SMOKES along too, and I haven't even overclocked it yet. I am totally content with this as an iPad substitute if it continues to run nice and stable, and that's a BIG endorsement as I love IOS.

SNG and anyone else that's interested, I am more than happy to do a little how to with the links to everything you will need if you guys wish. If you own one of these DO IT!!

As long as its legal lol please post up what you did.

It's all legit as android is based on open source, and this build is custom to the nook color and done for free by the dev team. I WILL be donating some cash to those guys, it's that darn good. I'll work on a step by step, there's a bunch online, but some little things I learned and had issues with I can add in for you guys all in one place. I'll get working on it and start a thread about it.

Absolutely NO WAY would I keep it unless I got it half off. If you bought new, return it and INSIST on new.

Help Communist China to bury us. Shop at Walmart.
