Gonna order new brushless this coming friday it's been narrowed to either the rustler vxl or the hpi firestorm flux just want something thats plug-n-play for when my nitros are ticking me off.Now the rustler i know very well and like it alot but how is the firestorm flux compared to it? Like speed, durability, and so on.Any help would be great cause right now I'm gonna go with the rustler ulti combo from tower but it appears as the firestorm has a bigger motor? 5700kv-3500kv but I'm not sure about the ESC's and how they compare to each other and how the flux runs, since i can only buy one I would like to buy the best bang for the buck will eventually goto lipo but nothing radical only like a 2c 5k or something in that area, and both hpi and traxxas replacement parts are readily available at the 3 local hobby shops i goto.Thanx for any help in advance,Tim

The Traxxas transmission is a lot stronger then the Flux trans. I like the VXL system a lot that Traxxas sells, it is great for plug and play.

The Flux has a re badged Castle Creations Sidewinder and 5700 KV motor which are both great products. On a 2s pack the flux will fly.

The VXL and Flux motors are almost the same physical size. The Flux motor has a higher KV rating, the 5700 KV motor will turn faster on say 2S lipo then the 3500 KV motor will on the same voltage.

I don't know about at your LHS, but at mine they always have parts to fix Traxxas stuff, and not so much for the Hpi stuff. What I mean buy this is most hobbies shops have more support for Traxxas stuff.

flux vs vxl

thanx for the input but by better tranny do you mean the flux wont take the abuse the lipo puts on it or just not as good as the vxl will,or does the flux break alot? My LHS carries a ton almost a full wall of each, but more traxxas electric than hpi but alot of hpi nitro stuff,so its good both ways.

i shattered two flux transmissions (spider gears anyway) and one output with a mamba max and 6900kv motor.

I'm not a big fan of the rustler but i agree that the flux tranny isn't the strongest.

Having the highest kV motor that you can get isn't always the best thing. I bought the highest kV motor for my micro-Desert (10250 kV) it is nearly undriveable on a 2s LiPo. The other thing to think about is the parts availability.

Just giving you a heads up. before you go with THs combo deal you may want to look at the batteries they are giving. A buddy of mine got the combo for the slash. Yes, I know slashes don't come out on the market as a bl but the battery they gave time was a low volt 3500mah battery and a good charger but a cheap one. Juse letting you know they make most electric combo look good but they aren't. check out other batteries and charger available that would make your electric brushless experience a bit more exciting.

vxl vs flux

Yah i checked on the package and its not too bad it comes with a decent charger and a 4800 battery so it should work well but planning in a couple months to update to lipo charger that does them all and balancer with lipo batt but thanx for the heads up

i was faced with the exact same problem a couple of weaks ago. in fact heres the post https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72301 . well anyways i chose the rustler vxl and havent regreted it yet. not only is the rustler fast as %$#@ but it is very durable despite what everyone says IMO.

From what people say:

Rustler VXL Pros: alot faster
Rustler VXL Cons: less durable

firestorm flux pros: more durable
firestorm flux cons: slower

thats the bottom line from all the post when i was serching google and this forem+ others

but imo the rustler is durable enough but it may look less durable because when you crash your going alot faster

well thanx for the opinions guys. This wont be a truck i drive hard i got an 1/8 mugen buggy, mugen truggy and hpi savage X to do that with. This will be a little drag racing and some on road speed runs thats about it at the end of a bash session i think the rustler will be just fine.I just thought it was kind of strange that you hear about the traxxas rustler like all over the place every hobby shop and almost all magazines, but i never heard anything about the firestorm flux, well thanx guys for the help but ill be ordering the rustler on friday morning to take advantage of the 30 bucks off special figure what the hell, see ya later guys

check out ebay first i found mine on there used for 300.00 with the venom pro charger and a venom lipo.

well as much as i love a great deal like that i dont use credit cards and tower does the flex pay thing so i was gonna give that a try to see how that goes plus they got a $30 off $225 or more deal that ends friday so was gonna take advantage of that and also it all ends up being brand new with no worries, but thanx for the input, and gratz on that deal you scored bigtime
