My f4.6 has never really had sealing problems until now. My exhaust seal burnt out and I needed some other stuff so I wanted to order all the stuff that I needed from the same website but no one had the 4.6 exhaust seals, so I got the axial ones. I can visibly see smoke coming out of the back of my motor, but I'm not sure if it is actually the exhaust seal or if it is my backplate. The exhaust seals are AX045 (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=ax045&search=Go). Anyone run these and do seal the header, or is it something else?

HPI seals are pretty thick I have found. I want to say they are thicker than axials, but I'm running from memory from a few years ago when I had an axial.

Take the engine out and see if you can see oil also coming out somewhere. If it's the exhaust or backplate, you should see where the oil buildup is oozing out.

Take the axial seal off and turn it inside out. Reinstall it this way. See if that seals it up. If that doesn't work seal the whole thing up with some Ultra Copper gasket and call it a day.

Thanks for the tip with the exhaust seal. I'm going to try that tomorrow and I hope that is the case. If not I have to get me some ultra copper.

DON'T COPPER SEAL YOUR EXHAUST MANIFOLD... tHE EXHAUST COUPLER GASKET IS THE SAME ONE THEY USE ON THE 25, 4.6. HAD BOTH ENGINES IN MY TRUCK, USED SAME GASKET ON BOTH MOTORS WITH SAME GASKET. HPI 87049 SHAPED EXHAUST GASKET COUPLER SAVAGE 25/X, Theres part # and everything. GET THOSE THEY ARE THE ONES YOU WANT.:D

dON'T GET THE ofna ONES EITHER, YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH LEAK!!!!!
