I have been wanting a nitro rc for a while, but didn't want to spend 400 or more to get into this side of the hobby, so I looked on eBay for a few weeks, then found this awesome vintage rustler for auction. I placed a bid for the starting price of $90 and somehow won. I have been working on it for the past couple days and am going to be posting updates as I go along with my repairs and restoration. Here is what I have done so far.
I cleaned off the dust and oil residue. She looks sharp.
I replaced the old school AM reciever for a flysky gr3e so I can bind my GT3B transmitter along with adding a 3d printed reciever box I found on Thingiverse. The exhaust was also pointing downwards, so I moved it back where it should be.
I moved the throttle linkages to the factory position. The linkages were mounted backwards from how they should be. I also saw that the servo mounts were broken, so I added some m40 washers to hopefully prevent it from popping out of place. I noticed the rear shocks are completely out of oil, so will be will either be buying new rear shocks (Traxxas for some reason still sells the ultra shocks in black) or rebuilding the current ones. I am excited to get this up and running( fuel is on the way) and enjoy it. There is no reason to have a shelf queen. I like to use my rcs, but don't abuse them, so they will still look nice.
