to make setting it up a lot more accurate measure the distance of 10 magnet rotations then divide it by 10. trying to measure the tiny distance of one rotation is soo inaccurate.

Kwong - If you just used the 30% for one high speed run you are not going to wear out your engine.

Yeah, I know it won't suddenly lose compression, but I know 30% WILL do SOME damage to the engine. And to me it's just not worth it.

Besides, i'd have to retune the engine completely, then retune it back to 20%, and it's a pain in the ass to get right...

Kwong - The only time 30% nitro is going to hurt your motor is when you are running too lean. Tuning is part of having a nitro vehicle, when the weather changes I usually readjust my needle valves. Whatever you feel comfortable with.

Okay, it was almost completely dry out. I had a good 1/8 mile to run the car.

With stock gearing (2 speed), I managed to do 61mph.

Not bad...now all I need to do is maybe change the gearing a little and i'll bet I can get a few more mph. I could tell the car was really topping out at the last 100ft.

edit: that was actually with the best top speed gearing...which is kind of dissapointing. I guess all I have left is to tweek the 2-speed to shift at just the right point and maybe run 30% which i'm not quick to do.

Tuning is no problem with me...believe me. If you had my engine, you'd understand, it's a pain. BTW, I have a flathead screw driver and my temp gun EVERYTIME I run my r/c's

Kwong - 61 mph that good! Just be careful you can get hooked on doing high speed runs , next thing you know , you are putting a novarossi high output 15 in your associated ntc3 with the objective of setting the land speed record that would be cool!:winnar:

That's cool. It also let you know you need to make a gear change for the place you run most often.

man i can't belive that you guys arent happy with 50 mph!!, dam.....i mean there a little foot long piece of plastic capable of doing 50+! i kinda wanna speed meter for my rc10 gt, but I'm poor so i think il stick with asking the cop at donut shop to borrow his speed meter(no installation required lol) and prolly more accurate, my friend asked cop with his evader sumthin buggy electric got like 27 i think. psshhhhh....electric, anyone ever clock there rc10 gts???

I was running a two speed, second gear was 27 pinion and 48 spur...dunno what first gear was.

has anyone put a venom speed meter on a belt drivin car? i am trying to figure out where i should mount one on my menace. i has the single belt config.

oh yeah, kwong, do you find there to be any vibration with the magnet on the driveshaft?

By the laws of physics, there IS some vibration, you can't get away with that, but it's not big and I haven't seen any damage or anything.

As for mounting the magnet on a belt driven car, I think your only real option is putting it on the spur gear.

edit: come to think of it, you might be able to put it on a shaft or something, but i'd have to see the car to see if it's possible.

You can do that, but its better toput the magnet on one of the output shafts, or drive shafts. That way, you can change gearing, and not have to take the magnet in and out of your spur gears, and you won't have to recalibrate the unit when you change gear ratio's.
