Ok, this is a repost from the other forum. I missed this forum! Figured it would be more appropriate here than in other.
Hey everyone, glad I found this forum, looks awesome so far. I picked up an LST yesterday locally. The truck looks decent, it's got the .26? engine on it. It had not been operated in some time. I picked it up for what I thought was a good price. I went home, started playing with things, found the carb was completely stuck. worked the linkage a bit, it loosened and as it got fuel in it, it now operate properly it seems. I ended up getting it started (used my drill as the battery in the wand was dead) after a few minutes of trying. I pulled the glow plug on it out and threw in a new one I had in my box.. Anyways, the steering was kind of crappy on it. for electronics batteries, it's got a 4 pack of AAs zipstripped to the front bulk head. That seemed kind of ghetto to me. I replaced the batteries, turned the receiver on and the radio on (stock XS3) and both front wheels jsut start twitching side to side and not responding well to the remote. You turn the remote off, the stop twitching (you can also hear an elctrical hum when the radio is turned on. I thought maybe the remote was set up wrong, the steering trims were off. I changed channels, resynced the truck to that signal, same thing. I put the old batteries in and it operated better. Last night, I supported the truck off the ground and replaced the batteries again and put it on the new freq, without the wheels on the ground, the steering was alot better, more responsive and all. When you put the truck on the ground, it won't turn the wheels. I'm thinking that with the upgraded servos that come on the LSTs, that the AAs are not enough juice for all the electronics? I saw a kit on ebay that used 2 battery packs for everything, seems like alot more power. It steers while moving, just not as crisp as i'd expect. Also, having a bit of an issue keeping it running. At idle, it's trying to creep forward, and the RPMs are up on the truck. I'm guessing Ican adjust that with the radio. I will mess with that today. Where is a good starting point for the carb needles? when it's running, it smokes alot.
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post.

For the steering, the LST's stock servos aren't that strong, 90oz and there are two, so you get 180oz. However, the truck uses servo mounted servo savers which get mushy after a while and may need replacing to get some of the crispness back.

Rolex noted in your other thread that MT's generally don't turn well when they aren't moving. This is really accurate for the LST in stock form. Between the weaker servos and the soft savers, just be happy it turns at all! ;)

Also, you should run a 6V flat pack that mounts under the chassis under the fuel tank. Alkalines just don't hold up well for RC, especially when your running dual steering. A 6V NiMH pack will make the servos work much stronger and faster.

Ok, I bought my fuel today and took it out again. Closed the main needle, then turned it 2.5 turns. It was blah on startup.. I turned it an 1/8th and that seemed to be the sweet spot. The steering is still off. I'll be driving it, and it won't turn, or if you turned it one way. sometimes it will turn the other way. It was consistant on what way it turns Ok. Sometimes you'd try to turn and it goes straight. Then other times it's turning OK. Also, seems to turn better with you off the throttle. leads me to think maybe it is power related. My T-maxx will turn the tires sitting still. It also was better when I first started running it today. Oh, once it was warmed up, it was a bit harder to crank up if it died (flipped over and died a few times)
Thanks for the input.

Plus one on the RX pack, it does make a huge difference. But, as olds pointed out, the LST is just a huge truck, period. My wheels will not turn much without the truck rolling. It is just too dang big.

the prbolem was the batteries. I ordered the big battery pack for it so hopefully that will give her some decent run time.
Thanks,
Brian
