I'm sure this would apply to Li-po batteries also. Looks like it'll be even more expensive to overnight any lithium based batteries and for ground service they even require special markings. I haven't gotten into the electric side yet, so you all might already be aware of this............ or it might not even apply to the batteries used in electrics, in which case, I'd be talking out of my rear (as usual). :D

I was checking tracking on a package I sent and found this article on the UPS site: http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/about/news/service_updates/battery.html

from what i understand it does not apply to RC batteries as long as there is little charge in them

I might have missed something but I didn't see anything about having little charge on the battery.....Besides you can't drain a lipo battery down or it will be damaged.

That's still relatively vague regarding what we're used to seeing. The best bet is just to go to a UPS store and ask if it qualifies as "medium". I could possibly see some of the larger batteries being "medium" but certainly not ALL of them.

sorry... i should have clarified.. i spoke with someone at usps about it.. ill do it again today so you guys can call the person i talked to

their closed today.

I can understand their reasoning... After all, it only takes one spark in the wrong spot to cause a major disaster.

I saw that there was a link at the bottom of the UPS page, it goes to the DOT web-site which makes the standards. http://hazmat.dot.gov/regs/rules/final/72fr/docs/72fr-44929.pdf On page 3 is the definition of 'small', 'medium' and 'large' batteries based on the amount of lithium in them. It's all greek to me buy maybe someone with more knowledge might be able to translate it for me. :D

i would mark the package as RC Parts, instead of Battery. that way, the companys (all of them) dont try to charge you 3 arms and 4 legs to move them.

package them well with plenty of padding and ship it usps priority.
